Is Somb Slow?

I have a user who is complaining about SOMb being really slow in the last day or so. Is anyone else having this issue? It is snappy as heck for me.

I'm on my dad's computer and i refuse to go to the main page. It takes around 2 minutes to load, and this is why i have the message boards bookmarked.

Like I said, IE is slow. Its also a lot of data (big photos etc).

So if you are using chrome on a fast computer and its slow, thats different than my dads 4 year old office computer and IE, both of which will be upgraded within the year...

I'm using Chrome and it's fast. Skimonline main page loads in about 3-4 seconds. Forum in about 1-2 seconds.

The boards are quick but when I go to the homepage it takes forever to load and it freezes.

I am using internet explorer. He doesn't like me downloading "new" things on his computer.

haha, new things like modern internet browsers? That sucks!

IE 9 is going into beta next month. It will be similar in speed to other browsers... so if you cant download chrome or firefox, I guess you will have to wait for that.

3-4 seconds is my max load time on the front page when cached. No longer than 10 uncached, but just the main slider is over a MB, so thats understandable.

I have terrible internet but the boards are usually quick.....but I have noticed it lagging a bit. And I have 1 minute wait times on the homepage in chrome alot. I tend to check out SO home on the phone due to the lag of FC player.

the message boards are really fast
and the skimonline home page takes about 8-15 seconds (so its not too bad)
my internet connection is shit ass, and i use a mac with the newest safari

Like, it takes you 45 seconds to download 1MB terrible internet?

Cause that would explain it... and thats pretty darned terrible internets.

Takes me about 3-4 second to download a mb (max) and about the same time to open the homepage.

Ummmmm let's just say it's actually slower than that. If it takes 30 seconds for just the speed test to load....I guess I have problems.

new fast cpu. new IE ... pretty normal... sometimes i wait a second or two waiting for a certain thread or just the OT bookmark to load..

sometimes i also get 'done' in the bottom right corner but blank page.. sometimes 1 refresh will bring it back, other times i have to click it a hundred times.....

ive been getting a blank page a LOT past few weeks. not really a problem b/c i hit refresh and its up in a second. too lazy to clear cache/cookies, which is most likely the problem

I use chrome and for the most part it's fast, but every so often the main page will freeze my laptop for a few minutes

update:

SOMB has been sporadically slow for me recently. like 1 minute its fine, next few minutes its pretty much dead, fine a few minutes later, dead, fine, etc. during the "slow" times, a ping of www.skimonline.com does not reveal anything odd. i am assuming there may have been some server maint. lately?

also, one other random issue ive been having is sometimes im randomly logged in when i open SOMB - i sign out after my previous session and no one by me has access to my username. also, sometimes i will log in, but the second i click anything that links me to a diff page (ie skim to off topic, or click individual thread) im suddenly logged out. then if i click around more while SOMB thinks im a "guest" at this point, im suddenly logged back in again. sometimes i need to manually log in again.

both of the above happen on multiple systems/browsers.
