I'm honoring them by working and not getting paid time and a half. Now thats a celebration.
I honored them by getting pissed off at the abundance of people at the beach.
But seriously, good thread.
if we can at least have one serious thread for the month, I think this should be it. but yeah I chose not to skim today for that reason Derek.
I chose not to skim...b/c theres no waves. Good thread dougy.

My dad is retired Air Force...we've been remodeling the house, but he went out two days ago and put in a temporary holder out front so he could hang a huge flag over the garage for the weekend. Good stuff.
My family is also huge military background and its a big holiday here at the Roberts Household.

I had to march in 80 degree weather with really high humidity. I play trumpet. It sucked. I wish I could've had the day off to skim or whatever. I had to work the rest of the weekend one of the busiest in a tourist town like Rockport. Pretty much this weekend was horrible. In all seriousness we have to honor our Armed Forces for doing all that they have.

I just checked, in all the wars fought by the United States only 10,000 soldiers have been killed in action defending actual US soil, not counting Pearl Harbor or Civil War.

i think it's more along the lines of myself reverencing the fact that people (1 or 10,000) died for my right to be a free and happy person, but interpret that in whichever way you want.Originally Posted by Dzan

You are trying so hard to bust my balls. It's hilarious. I ask you to point out something I said that was offensive and you couldn't, yet you still won't give it up.Originally Posted by samcollett
Face facts: I didn't say anything that was the least bit inflammatory, you and some others were looking for any provocation to prove how patriotic you are (or whatever) and you ran with it. When replied to with the simple question of what is offensive about what I said, you have nothing.

Too much reverencing thats the problem.Originally Posted by samcollett
Dzan, that was incredibly unnecessary and extremely disrespectful to post in this thread. ONLY 10,000 soldiers huh? You say only as if that is some insignificant number.
400,000 American soldiers died in World War II. Directly defending U.S. soil? No. But would this country be what it is today if those soldiers hadn't made that sacrifice?
I don't care if you don't agree with the cause of Vietnam, Korea, Iraq, or any other war. You should respect the fact that men and women, your fellow citizens, stand ready to go fight and die so you can sit back and pull up your statistic (that was obviously meant in very bad taste).
Don't spread your disrespect in this thread again.
Hey I have an idea: go frack yourself. I wasn't being disrespectful, you are reading too much into it and you need to get the sand out of your vagina and stop projecting.Originally Posted by doug

^heres a good lil memorial day montage movie thing that is a good movie to watch and think about all the soldiers who have served this country.
Would you go to the vietnam war memorial and post a sign saying "none of these men died protecting U.S. soil?"
The point is, that was extremely unnecessary and it WAS disrespectful.
To be fair, none of the vietnam war dead did die on american soil and I'm fairly sure everyone in the world is aware of that. So I don't see why I would need to post a sign saying something everyone already knows.Originally Posted by doug
If you think it was disrespectful, thats your problem. I didn't intend it to be, and if you took it as a knock against soldiers for some reason, like I said before, you are being defensive and seeing what you want to see.

the iwo-jima flag raising was a staged photo op that wasnt even taken at iwo-jima....i think thats pretty disrespectful. You might as well have put a screenshot from saving private ryan up.
pretty sure that's a mythOriginally Posted by DjMattyD
All I'm saying is, this was the wrong place to post something like that. It's in bad taste.
Yeah it is, but my saving private ryan line was so good I just had to use it.
I actually went to a place in Vero called Memorial Island where local soldiers and others are remembered with some markers and such.. There was a service there and I went to that. It made me realize how much they give up for our freedom..
Dzan, you are 1) a moron 2) a commi
had the WW11 soldiers not gone over to euro, than the Nazi's would of token over (quite possibly) and memorial day is not only honoring people who died protecting american soil(even tho people in DDay were protecting american soil in a way)

I would respond to that ignorant post, but it WOULD be disrespectful to this thread, so I'll refrain. If you want me to humiliate you, make a new thread asking that question.
