Dont worry about the X, the / will hold against motion perfectly fine, especially if you interchange the ways the / is going on each of the three side such as /|\|/. That is plenty of strength for the bed. I know because I actually took structural engineering classes and we designed a back porch for the professor. And no, it wasnt made of toothpicks.
