because the vast majority of host cities aren't anywhere near a skimable beach? (and I guarantee there is at least 10-30x as many people who curl as skim)
curling is still way bigger in popularity than skimboarding. like....it's not even close

I dont think thats true. My brother went into an ice rink and there was people curling, and they let him try. and while he was there he got invited to the state championship (california) for under 18s. The people there said there literally is like no kids who curl. sooo.....I think its pretty small.
Curling is part of the Canadian physical education curriculum just like baseball, football, and basketball here. Just because it's not big in the US does not mean its not big elsewhere.
...and besides the summer games already have too many events and are getting rid of long established events. If baseball doesn't have enough worldwide participation then skimming doesn't stand a chance.
Because curling if ef'ing awesome.

I admit... I have been watching all the matches. The curling stadium has been selling out for every mens' match. That's 19,000 people. Could you imagine that many people showing up for the vic?

I wouldn't be surprised to see skateboarding in the olympics in the near future.... its just such a USA dominated sport

you guys havent seen this?
I just can't imagine surfing/skimboarding in the Olympics. There would have to be a sufficient waiting period at a sufficient break and skimboarding hasn't even really seen that yet... (Exile 500?) (Cabo/Mexico?)

Is there a single olympic event that dosn't sell out? I would assume they all do...
and I really have no idea how big curling is, but from the one experience I have had with it it sounded like they are completely desperate for people to join because so few people do it..
Personally, I think judgement sports in the Olympics are pretty weak all around. On the worst end of the spectrum, you've got figure skating. (Look, I understand figure skating is in the Olympics and I can handle that, but does it have to be on 50% of the time????) On the better end of the spectrum, you've got stuff like Moguls, or Rings and High bar in the summer. That's shit's rad, but it's still a lame judgement call to see who's best.
Olympics really thrives on numbers -- who's fastest, who's strongest, who threw what the farthest (or my favorite, who can ski the fastest AND shoot shit the most accurate -- nice.) Measureable skill on a consistent playing field is the way to go. You can't do that with surfing or skimming, but you can with skateing.
Skateboarding would be a totally legit Olympic sport, since you can compete in a controlled/consitent environment. It's really not different from the halfpipe comp that's already so popular. But, in the end it's a judement sport, so that sucks. Maybe they could do superjump, or skater-cross, or something completely ef'ed up and really dangerous. That would be nice. After all, Canada has already tried to kill all of the Winter O competitors with their Extreme-Olympics style courses...

Yeah that kid (don't know his name) should have got second place in the half pipe, not third..... that's my two cents on judgement sports.

It's not a serious group, it's just because here in France curling is weird lol

Also as I remember.......snow boarding didn't get into the Olympics until the late 70's or so. Much later than skateboard 1/2 pipe competitions. And I bet the reason was money......when the big snow ski companies started making snowboards and the ski resorts started making 1/2 pipes, I think that's when it made it into the Olympics.

The vancouver courses aren't very dangerous, it's the condition the snow's in.
I think curling is epic. Picture it like this...Bowlings pretty fun. When you go bowling, you let go of the ball and that's it. Imagine if you got to control and influence the way the ball got down to the pins after you let go of it. that would add a whole other dynamic to the game and make it a lot more fun IMO.

'alot' is not a word.
aaand it could get a wave built in every host city, which would be pretty cool...
if surfing isnt in the Olympics yet unfortunately skimboarding doesnt stand a chance![]()
I can't even believe the idea of skimboarding in any olympics is being entertained.

i'm not sure, i guess i mean, it's our sport and it's so misunderstood by other people. How many people think skimming is riding in the wet sand parallel to the beach. I love that it's our sport and basically everyone knows each other and we have this online community where everyone stays in touch, etc. what other sport really has that? skimming in the olympics to me would help companies grow and make alot of money, yes, and also would lead up to a pro circuit that could support pro's with income enough to make a living off of, but yet thousands and thousands of people would take up the sport without any knowledge of where people in this community have taken it from. i think as far as i'd want skimboarding to be, would be the xgames, or maybe coverage of the vic on fuel or something. i probably don't really have many valid points here, but it's late at night so forgive me haha

curling doesn't even look that hard. hey let's see who can slide this thing closest to this other thing. it's like a game you play sitting around with your friends when you're 10.
give me 2 weeks to practice and i bet i'd be pretty decent, whereas if you tried to teach someone to be good at snowboarding/basketball/anything else in 2 weeks they would totally suck balls at it.
