lol. seriously though if the lightning strikes the water and youre even close enough you can get zapped. saltwater is an excellent conductor.

it wasnt a direct strike. it jumped from the rain drops and hit me. i might be dead if it were a direct strike...
i did knock me to the ground tho.

ya similar thing happened to me but i was on a field when it was raining...frackin scariest thing of my life. it hit a kid like 10 feet from me and stopped his heart, but luckily for him there was a defibrillator nearby. did you have like a really intense headache afterwards?

it is not as clean bc whenever it rains sewage treatment plants can't handle the amount of extra water comin in through street drains, etc. so they shut the treatment facilities down to prevent overload(so there is a chance of raw sewage going into the water youre skimming, but there's so much water you wont notice a diff unless youre skimming next to a sewer water output). soo yea its a little dirtier but just be sure to quickly disinfect any cuts and youll b fine

im pretty sure its just that california doesnt get much rain so harmful shit just chills because it doesnt get flushed out frequently like the east coast. when it does rain all of that bad shit gets caught in the rain runoff and gets to the ocean.

the treatment plant thing does happen on both coasts( its standard operating procedure for WTPs) but thats a possibility too. still wouldnt really let it stop my rain sessionss

I like to wear a baseball style hat, it keeps the rain out of my eyes when running for waves. Try it.

NorCal_SKim, as long as your beach isnt close to any streams/creeks/rivers that flow into the ocean you should be ok
