so i was skimming today and regretting not getting a arch bar... and the thought came to me. why don't skimboards just have archbars that are actually built into the board that i could just wax and not have to buy an actuall pad?..

It would be cool, but some people would probably want to be able to place it according to their likings and get the brand/model they want. Basically they want to customize it.

well im sure if it was long enough who can actually use the whole archbar if it was long enough and didnt weigh a lot it could work
probably because the benefits are limited and not really worth the extra effort that would go into the construction of the board, not to mention the potential loss of structural integrity and the added weight (it may not be much but it would be more then a pad)
people like different pads and may not like the one that a company would build into the board
Safety is for people who don't know what they are doing.
i don't use traction pads. i never really liked them. so i bought a textured board and used wax.

ppl want to have different colors and brands. it would never happen i guess
I like the idea. Not so great for those who really like after market arc bars as it would make the bar stick up to high, but great for the old fashion waxer types.
I think Exile or Vic would certainly charge you a custom shape charge for that.
Well the only thing that stops this is the reason that people have preferences on many things.. Also there would be no need for traction companies anymore if we did this, this would throw out those whole companies..
the easy solution is just to buy an arch bar
it's skimable skimable rideable rideable:D

you would still need back pads. i'm certain that traction companies make most of their money off of back pads. look at the surf industry. if you walk into a surf shop and look at the used board that they have, 98% of them have only back pads.Originally Posted by AerialSkimmerBrad
and packabowl...arches aren't that expensive. i consider mine to be worth the money i spent on it. i also think it's a lot more comfortable than wax. i remember on the old mb though in the Show Your Board thread, these australian guys posted this homemade board that was tiger striped somewhat(yellow and whitish with black running down the center and branching off), and the center was raised like an arch.

arch bars are stupid and a waste of money. All they do is limit your footing. I don't want the crap built into my effing board, that would be retarded, and uncomfortable, A "hard arch bar"? NOOOO!
