Vic Poly

Im getting a vic poly and im wondering if i should just get an exile instead. If not what size should i look at for the vic, and if not what is the major differences in e-glass and s-glass? i weigh 170 and im 5'10. any help would be appreciated. BTW, this is my first wave board and will any of these withstand many of times of punishment. i live on oahu and most of the shorebreak here are rough (ie sandys)

skimboards are not indestructable and every board will eventually ding/break. but the ones you've mentioned should be fine for you, you're making a good choice by starting with a quality pro-level board. with regards to vic versus exile, the main companies all have comparable offerings of higher level boards. what you prefer is really going to be up to you. one difference is exiles are constructed with epoxy resin. most if not all of the other top brands use polyester resin unless you custom order. epoxy construction is a little lighter. i've owned both exiles and vics, both are good boards. as for size, i don't weigh 170 so i have no idea. my advice though is to not get a huge board. obviously you need it to be big enough, but if you're in between sizes get the smaller one.

while the exile is 5/8

but exile does not charge extra to upgrade to 3/4

i think s glass is worth it; stronger.

Yes, carbon boards are best for beaches that have NO shorebreak.

also i ment sent sandys is known for a huge shorebreak; wouldnt the stiffness of the carbon allow it to break easier?

My poly vac's entire rail is delamming pretty badly. I only used it for 2 weeks. It got a big impact ding on the side on its 5th run, but i dont know what it hit. My brother has a fortified exile, and we skimmed together so he used it whenever i did at the same spots, and his is spotless.

On the upside, i like how my poly vac rides more than i liked the exile. Id recommend maybe a carbon polyvac, it should hold up better than mine did.

carbon makes its stronger as in less likely to snap and stiffer it doesnt help prevent dings.

if you think it dinged to easily maybe try an epoxy board instead of a polyester resin board. They are more resistant to dings and wear more slowly.

I have two carbon boards (Vic Polyvac ML) and they have lasted at Sandys. The one I use the most is over three years old and still kicken. You don't need a carbon board to skim Sandys unless money is no object. Most the guys ride with non carbon boards with out any problems.

Yes they where all PVC foam boards. Who would make a carbon board with out using PVC foam.
