    Default In need of tips

I am a beginner and I am practicing just about everyday since I am on vacation out in Maui (south kihei). The beach I am at isn't too good for skimming but it is fine for a beginner, small waves but they break closely. Anyway... I am trying to do wraps on the waves and I can't figure it out. I either go too fast and just end up launching myself off the wave (without my board) or I just lose all speed.

If anyone can help me out I would appreciate it.

Maybe your running really fast but you don't have a good drop? If you look at skim vids do you see how they get on the boards really quick? like they do a 1 step or 2 step? Also this will help........

    Okay cool haha...

Well I went down to my beach and took a clip of the beach so everyone can see the size of the waves and the break and everything. Here is the link, I couldn't get it to embed.

This is the general size of the waves the whole day. There is rarely any bigger ones.

my guess (this used to happen to me) is sometimes your drop and or sideslip gets messed up so you try to account for this and eventually you end up getting it right but your not expecting it so you launch off the wave. explain in more detail how and when and where you slow down and people will give you more advice.

    i had this problem too.
you might try going more parrel to the beach, turning off the wave will be a lot easier then going straight out

Okay well I'll elaborate for you guys best I can. I will run a short distance and throw my board out in front of me. Then I sprint after it and jump on, I am heading towards the ocean at a decent speed and as soon as I hit water I just lose all momentum.

On the rare occasion that I can float over the white-water I get to the small wave and just catch really small air off of it. Usually without my board

try leaning back as you get to the white water and as soon as you get up over it lean foward sort of in a snap like an ollie (if you skate) but not quite as much pressure on the tail or you will hit the bottom and eat shit. also learn a one step drop

drop the board instead of throwing it then run on. start really slow then speed up when you get it down. you'll lose a day of skim but it will help you so much.

if u wanna back foot first start running and when you wanna get on the board wait until you step with your front foot. at that moment drop the board and as quickly as possible get you back foot on and then even quicker get your front foot on. vice versa for front foot first. try both on the dry sand see which youre more comfertable with and try it progressivley faster in the water. youll get it in a few sessions at most.
