i went to orlando in like 7th grade with my dad my 2 friends and their dads. i got bored of universal and seaworld after one day so i fished the entire time at some hotel that my dad knows the owwner of. i think its the ritz carlton or something, it was tall and pink ith a goolf course. i caught bass bigger than i ever did in nj.

haha everytime i've fished in ponds near hotels i've stayed at, i've caught mutant sized fish. i remember i was staying at some place up in myrtle beach and i was catching these monster frying pan sized bluegill off of a beetlespin, they just kept coming .

hahaha so true. I think they eat all the crap people throw to the ducks? P. S. Who uses a beetlespin anymore? I thought they stopped making them like 12 years ago..

i just found a lake with florida-like bass. little brothers friend has pictures of bass in there and they are fat as hell. im gonna give it a shot soon. ill get pics if it goes well

idk but they are with out a doubt the most fun fresh water fish i have ever caught so keep them coming. Pound for pound they are the strongest freshwater fish I'd say.

Sight fished for smallmouth today, shit that was fun. Placed an Adams on the noses of a few bass and they couldn't resist hitting it... 6 feet from where I was standing.

I can never catch peacock bass, they chase my bait up until I pull it out of the water then back down.

looked up a little om the florida situation of peacock bass and got this

"In 1984, Florida officials deliberately introduced butterfly peacock bass and speckled peacock bass to the southern region of that state.[1] There they prey on other non-native and invasive species such as the oscar, Midas cichlid, and the spotted tilapia. Also, their introduction now provides additional sport fishing opportunities for local anglers along with the common snook, largemouth bass and bluegill. While the butterfly peacock bass has flourished there, the speckled peacock bass has not. Therefore, it is now illegal to kill or possess speckled peacock bass in Florida.

Because of their tropical origins, peacock bass cannot tolerate low water temperatures. This has prevented them from becoming abundant outside of Miami-Dade, Palm Beach, and Broward counties within the state of Florida." from wikipedia

your target was 6 feet away? What size is your flyrod,or better yet how long is your tippet??

Sight/fly fishing is definitely tops in the sport, no matter what size fish, its just so damn fun.

good find colter, I was curious about that. I thought for sure they would wipe out the other sportfish as well but I guess not. Im pretty sure I just located some in a river by where im staying in brazil, now i just have to locate something to catch them with...

It was 6-10 feet from the shore, close enough so that I could poke them with my pole if I wanted to standing on the edge. 9 foot rod, 4-5 foot leader and another 2-3 feet of tippet. I backed up to cast to them they were that close, otherwise I would have had to just literally put the fly down on their nose.

heck yes, or one of those huge prop baits they use for them. I feel like peacocks are the kind of fish that you could use a live bat or a monkey or something..

Like mentioned above they stocked them back in the 80's.

They make up a complete fishery on their own down in S. Fla. There are guides that guide just for peacocks. They fight extremely hard, similar to a smallmouth. They also love the summer and hot weather. They will slam top waters in at like noon in the middle of the summer.

They are an awesome fish. I think the state record is 11 lbs or so.

Use something fast, small and shiny, David. Like a #5 rapala or a small inline spinner. Then pretty much reel as fast as you can and jerk the rod to make it move erratic. They will follow but rarely hold soft plastics so it is hard to hook them on them. Need something with trebles.

I love orange #5 and #7 original floating rapalas and clear torpedos.

Or if you want no challenge just use small shiners.
