this thread is intense, all i gotta say is i've lost tons of respect for a few companies and gained some for others.
I just wanna know one thing, why is anyone that rides an exile who isn't sponsored by them is automatically an "exile groupie" or whatever. I mean frack, i ride exiles because their boards have treated me very well, and they have always had great customer service. Maybe people buy them for the same reason? and not just to be "cool." seriously, get your heads out of your asses. And all you people saying that everyone who rides an exile is bias but that's hypocrisy at it's finest, you're obviously biased towards another company because you feel the need to attack everyone who rides exile.

At first glance this might not seem like a big deal, in fact many people might (especially those behind new small companies) will argue to no end that it's a good thing, but for the over all long term development of the sport it's a problem. Skimboarding doesn't have a multi-billion dollar soft goods industry to keep it afloat, and its unlikely it ever will. Like I said, the burden of marketing the sport lies solely on the shoulders of the manufacturers and their very limited profit margins to keep things moving forwards.

An increase in the number of board manufacturers dilutes existing established manufacturers already limited profits, making it more difficult for them to reinvest in the sport, and eventually stagnating things to a point where it won't grow larger.

Realistically these new smaller companies are not having an impact on the growth or development of the sport. Because of their limited sales they are incapable of investing the necessary money back into the sport to help it... whether you want to believe it or not, "sponsoring" the next local "skimfest" "skimbash" or "skim invasion" does not equal a measurable return on the overall growth of the sport. Neither does undercutting existing manufacturers prices and sponsoring people that would otherwise be buying a board from an established manufacturer... Its easy for these small companies to do this due to their low overhead and low volume of sales, and they do it frequently.

what's a board or two you ask... it's significant to companies like Vic Exile and Zap. Skimboarding is so small to begin with that every sale counts. Initially these small companies might see a spike in their sales, but in the long run they WILL NOT be able to increase their volume of sales to a level on par with the big three. There just aren't enough skimboarders out there. All they will really accomplish is watering down the sales of the larger manufacturers who have actually been taking this sport somewhere for the last 30 years, and put serious restraints on their abilities to do so in the future. Ironically the actions taken by these small manufacturers will put the the lid on their own growth. They are relying on taking market share from the larger brands... eventually everything will even out at a point of stagnation, because the large companies will no longer be able to market meaningfully and draw new participants to the sport.

Your wrong, people are always going to be sticking to exile, zap, victoria, why? because they put out good products. These newer companies don't have an established name, and for people who are serious about skimboarding, they know all the good brands, and they stick to them, keeping them in business. And skimboarding is a booming sport right now, it's getting pretty big. These newer kids getting into it will probably buy the lower quality brand skimboards, but they'll eventually realize where it's at if they're serious about skimming. Check out some skimming vids, you know the only company making skim vids right now is? Excellent way to advertise. So don't even give me that crap that you think exile and all these other high end brands are going out of business, in reality it's only starting to take off.

just plain wrong. people who are serious about skimboarding have spread out to smaller companies such as concept, square, apex, syndrome, walzer.
