making a good skimboard does not help the growth of the sport in any substantial way.
maybe not, but I feel a company should deliver the best product possible for the price asked.
If skimcompany's build shit boards it isn't good for the name of skimboarding.
I build parts wich may not fail, if it does, it can cost lives. Skimboards are a bit less in that matter, but high quality is something to work for.
But the china woodies help the growth of the sport too. I've never seen those sponsor anything!
They're in all the shops here. After kids learn to skim on them, they say goodbye to flatland and buy an exile, victoria, or eden here mostly.

I dont know what to agree with. I'm no marketing specialist, or skimboard manufacturer (yet)
But I'm enjoying this thread on rainy windy day's with a bucket of popcorn.
Making the best boards may or may not help the sport, direct or indirect, but making bad boards will hurt it.

actually most kids try those chinese woodies, have a horrible time and never skimboard again. All they do is waste the consumers money and furthers skimboarding image as that sport you do in tidepools.

Gonna go out on a limb and say Slotstik just lost a large amount of customers right there. I've been curious as to how they ride and have thought several times about buying one but who in their right mind would support an owner like that?

Exile is so far ahead of its competitors for one reason: the quality of their product. People want to ride whats best. If these other companies want to compete with Exile, quit ripping on them, step it up, and design a better board. The shit talking clearly isn't working and its losing some companies as well as the sport itself a lot of respect.

And FYI, I ride a Syndrome, so this is completely non-biased. I will go as far as to say I've ridden a few an am really not a fan. But I have all the respect in the world for the company and seeing as half the skim community rides them, they must be doing something right.

yea i bet if i tried one of those my first time i wouldnt of done it for much longer... although i find it funny how no one compete's with zaps low end boards... i would figure in general more low end boards sell than high end boards per year... but i don't know much about the skimboard business world... although it is easy to tell i know more about business than slotfest... lollllll

Anyone see Yoshi's for-sale thread? A Slotty and an Exile for sale. Yoshi's friend wasn't pleased with the Exile...

obviously not everyone is going to love the board they get, no matter how well liked it is by others. don't try to bring up irrelevant things.

Every one has a preference. Personally I like the way Slottys ride, they fast as hell and I love the wrapped rails. My Slot was my first high end board and at first I didn't like it b/c I sank way too fast. I then got a Zap Carbon Comp, which I loved for a long time, but my drop got smoother I realized how much faster the Slotty was. The Carbon Comp is still a good board it just doesn't suite me any more.

I have also rode a hybrid Exile and a Boom (more recently). Both those boards feel quick and forgiving, certainnly nothing wrong with them, but I still just like the way a Slotty rides.

Lol, I'm sorry. Yoshi was saying glass was coming off, and it wasn't durable at all. Was it the board's owner's fault? Probably. I just found it ironic. Since he claimed it was craftman's error, I said he should email you.

Jones, this thread isn't about board preferences and what not, that's what I'm saying. or a certain persons problem with a board either due to manufacturing flaw or rider abuse. that's all i'm sayin

Alright. I just thought it was worth a mention with the board superiority claims going on (from Aaron & Slotfest both).

I have done a lot of surfboard and skimboard repair......and that sure looks like the board went into the rocks to me. Yes the glass is coming off, only because those are bad dings...... from rocks would be my guess.

Anonymous neg reps are funny. An infraction is suppose to be reserved for a serious violation of the rules.

I can't hurt anyone with my rep. Infractions must be real serious if 2 out of 3 of my infractions are for stuff I didn't do...

so because someone gave you an undeserved infraction it means you should go out and do the same? You really are in 3rd grade aren't you?

Geez that last post by Aaron was the nail in the fracking coffin. I'm sure he didn't want to go there but he was kind of left with no choice.

This thread is a good read.
