Default In memory of Mike Meyer

To the strains of his favorite Dylan song, Michael
Meyer, 61, of Miramar Beach, Florida., passed away
peacefully at home on Wednesday, April 8, 2009,
after a long, hard battle with cancer.
Before he passed, Mike asked us to thank all of the
Meyer Skimboard clients for their business over the
last 24 years.
You will be deeply missed, Mike.
Mike Meyer Jake Meyer
INMEMORYOFMIKEMEYER

I'm sure a lot of you guys from Florida heard of him or had one of his boards and may not know that he passed away. So that's why I posted this.

A friend of mine sent me some pixs, in it was a pix of a Meyer skimboard. I had heard of them, but not seen them before, so I went to their site and I saw this, it hit home because we started making skims around the same time. And I thought that could have been me, because I had a heart attack during surgery. Even though I didn't know him, I feel we have lost one of us.......=(

We certainly did lose someone in our skimboarding community, my feelings go out to his family.

He is certainly one of those un-sung heroes of skimboarding, most likely everyone has ridden one of his boards but you never know who is behind it all. We could never thank him enough for his efforts in the sport.

wow... thoughts go out to the meyer family.

i remember a friend of mine had a meyer board and he really liked it... too bad they aren't that well-known, the website looks rather good and professional, so does the catalogue, but it's also designed by IWDFF who is a pretty good and well-known artist, anyhow, this is sad to hear, anyone who knew him?

My friend gave me his old meyer. I started skimming on that thing and thought it was the greatest.

He may not have done much lately but Myer did build some of the first Epoxy foam skimboards. They are not your first choice in skimboards but he has built boards for a long time including surfboards.Myer has also sponsored the East Coast Championships in Dewey (many years a go)

This thread is about losing one of the first guys on the East Coast that started making skimboards. It's not about whether his boards are good or not.........which I hope it doesn't come to this. It's about saying thanks for help getting skimboarding on the map.

he obviously contributed to getting YOU into skimming so I'd say that counts for something. there definitely isn't a need to come rant in this thread.

The reason I said he (helped) get skimboarding on the map.....is because he started making skims back around 1985. Not because he did anything else. Being from the west coast, I have never heard or seen any of his boards, and he most likely has not seen or heard of mine. That's all I was trying to say.......=(

rip mike.
he was a really good guy. he had his own niche in this industry and he filled it quite well.
yes he sold to tourist and souvenir shops to the tune of 600G a year.
he did his own thing. wasn't trying to one up anybody.
he sponsored ecsc for many many years.
his boards are everywhere. beginner kids ride his boards every day.

saying he wasn't anybody in this sport is like saying mike cole wasn't anybody.

I know nothing of meyer, but oviously everybody east does...

but listen to Narwall anyway, he seems to be the forefront authority on skimboarding and skimboarding history.

i dont do shit for skimboarding and i dont tell anyone my spots and i dont let anyone ride my board, but i still skimboard, and this guy had something to do with skimboarding, so RIP

theres not enough skimboarders in this world to gang up on each other, literally half the good skimmers in this world are on this little forum (im proably over exaggerating big time or underexaggerating, you know what i mean though), theres no need not to show respect just because you dont agree with 100% of what another skimboarding related person does

all this is IMO, so i dont want to hear any shit

that you spell correctly. Ha.

Yeah, my first was a Meyer w/ handles.

On a related note, my first toaster was a Toastmaster, which was originally owned by McGraw Electric. The founder Max McGraw passed away a few decades back, but I just wanted to give a shoutout to him and thank him for getting me into toasting bread and other bread-related foods. RIP, Max.

Wait......I think I have seen one of those. Were they the ones that had hand holes on each side for handles, hollow and made of hard molded plastic? LOL .........I never got to ride one though.

I would gladly turn to him if I had questions on Skimming. And let me also throw a BIG F.U. at you for dogging florida skimmers. Fcuking Kook.

I'm not 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure Robs knows more about and has more to do with skimboarding than you.
