    Default 2009 UST Tour

    I have a few questions.
    1. Will their be videos of each event like last time?
    2. If their is, what happens to the old ones? will they remain on the site, ot will they be taken down?
    3. Who chooses the event dates? Last years Santa Cruz contest was held in some of the worst conditions I had seen all summer.

the video does not show how bad it was. 26th didnt trough like all summer , until the week of skimbash......and those two days were also some of the windiest days of the summer.

pros got a solid hour or two of decent skim....pretty much no one else did that whole day though. My heat kids were doing flatland or hitting knee high waves......

OK next time you can predict exactly how it's going to be at a spot MONTHS ahead of time you call someone and make sure you let them know so they schedule the contest when there is going to be perfect swell.

stop complaining, you have a UST stop in your area and you should be happy, it was the same way for the OBX contest

yes, pros have to schedule in advance, book hotel rooms, flights, etc. so they cant jsut get a call one morning being told they have to fly across the country because waves will be good.

Yeah....its not a complaint at all. I would much rather have it in shit conditions then not at all, but its pretty known at what time of year 26th is good.....and evidently thats not the right time. I was just wondering if it is done by someone out of town with not as much experience with santa cruz? or if it is just a fluke. The videos I have seen of previous skimbash's though often look pretty troughy and bad though....which is super rare in the summer.

i remember skimbash 2007 being pretty good and the contest was held around the same time of the year as skimbash 2008.

yeah i do! its kinda hit or miss, but the other problem is 26 was beter around the rocks kinda, only they couldnt hold it there cas they couldnt fit all the tents and stuff between the water and the rocks. hopefully 26 gets a bunch of sand this year so we can hold it whereever its best.

what are the chances of there being extended live coverage for the events, like they had for the Vilano Throw Down thats on fsmtv. i guess this question is more aimed at jesse walker and rest of production team. unless anybody else knows.
im sure a lot of people would enjoy watching the events they cant make it to. At least they can get the next best thing, aside from the highlights videos.

oh ok, but they do have over 2 hours of coverage of the last 3-4 rounds. i couldnt tell if they had done live coverage and then re-edited it or it just wasnt live to begin with. either way im still wondering if they have something similar planned for the events this summer.

Yeah Skimbash had bad conditions, but it was 1 day off the best skim of the whole year. Pretty close guess on a good date, it's just forbidden to have good conditions for a contest here.

It was a two hour delay.

There are upload limits on most every type of connection...so we're trying to work something out with say Sprint or someone to make it broadcast(able).

And the amount of money and resources that have to be put into something like that are somewhat large when looking at skimboarding. At this point we're reserving that type of coverage for the Pro events. It would not be that practical broadcasting our amateur events. Next year's broadcast will be better. Just have to look at everything in steps.

And for people complaining about certain event's conditions. I will let you guys in on a secret. Directors have to announce most events in advance time.

1.) You have to reserve a date. The later you announce...the more likley you're going to piss off another director.
2.) You have to give skimboarder's ample time to arrange travel and take time time off work.

You can plan around an almanac and shoot for season that provides good skim. But for the most part you're throwing a dart at a board.

I think all the contests should be in FL. Then we dont have to worry about waves at all.

    1) yes there will be videos.
    2) no plans to take the old ones down.
    3) event organizers choose dates. santa cruz contest was days after some of the best conditions in santa cruz all summer. cant choose the day, can choose the season if your lucky. gotta keep in mind permits arent always available, especially during the summer. Oktoberfest is in oktober because that was the only weekend an event was permitted during the entire south swell season in Newport beach. It was that or Nov Dec Jan Feb. Literally.
