Default rubik's cube best solve time

I know there have been several threads about solving rubik's cubes, but there has never been a poll.

    Whats your best time (3x3)?

EDIT: last one should read 3m < t

I never took the time to learn the algorithm involved. Nor have I ever even picked one up besides when I was 10 years old and just pealed the stickers off and put them in the right spot

    1:23.

I think it was luck, I'm usually around 2 mins though.

Yay for this thread. I highly advocate learning to solve a Rubik's. It only takes a day to learn, it's fun, and people will think you're Jesus.

My last work christmas party was an 80's party. Not only did I find a mint condition red member's only jacket for my costume the day before, but at the party there were 3 rubik's cubes sitting on the dinner table as decorative props. people were like 'omg those are hard no one can do those', quietly i was sitting there and in my mind i was like YUUUUUSSSSSSSS. 'yeah ok mix it up for me'.

    they still talk about it.

Haha, BART you are the reason I learned. That thread you made helped me. I'm gonna try to move on to 4x4 or 5x5 soon. I have the 3x3 down to avg of 1:10 with a best of 46 (down from 49 as of today!).

I had a math competition this semester so I solved one beforehand nonstop with everyone staring at me like OMG look at that. It's really not that hard. Fun times.

I finally can do them now, it's really not that hard just to solve it, but to solve it fast.

My time is like 4 minutes 30 sec atm, haha.

    Zach,

I googled rubik's strategy and found they have an algorithm, having not really put any time to learn it. Have you ever solved it without using the algorithm?

i can do the 3X3 in just under 30 seconds but i like the 5X5 much better now which i can do in about ten. there are only about 2 or 3 mindless algorithms and the rest is actually doing it. plus once you figure it out its not too hard to do again and it makes you look ridiculously smart

Ya. I know. I just took the time the actually watch [part] of the video posted on here. What I mean is, has anyone here solved one WITHOUT any sort of algorithm that was researched/taught to them?

use the dan brown youtube tutorial, the algorithm and presentation format is easier to learn from than reading rubik's instructions. once you learn the basics, then there are methods you can move on to where you can solve most of the cube intuitively. makes way more sense to learn from a tutorial first though, so you can see how the cube works.

Yeah I watched about the first 4 minutes of it, but I honestly don't feel like learning right now haha. I picked up a cube last week when some guy was hustling them for a dollar each on a subway in San Francisco, so it's pretty funny there's a thread on here after I've researched strategy.

BTW, completely off topic Bart, but does your username have anything to do with the rail transit in SF?

Yeah, I can still do it - there's a couple of patterns for the final layer I forget sometimes, but generally under 3 minutes just plinking, and under 2 if I'm paying attention (and don't hit a bad mix).

this is driving me nuts. i have the same problem every single time. i went by the dan guys vids and i cant figure it out. i solve the final blue cross, so i go to line up the center pieces in the final layer. i get 2 lined up, like im supposed too, then do the algorithm to get all four. every single time i do it, i get the same shit. only 2 line up. if someone understands me and could help thatd be frackin shweet.

EDIT: nevermind my dumbass was holding it the wrong way.
