    Default Someone Torched the Skatepark

This is why we can't have nice things.

All my money on it was some 16 y/o kid who sucked and was called a poser then was like, "I'll show them." Good thing you can't burn down the beach.

It sucks that your park got burned down but if that's the reason then maybe it's justified. Why do kids feel the need to torment others? Why is it wrong to learn a sport or not be as good as others? (doesn't everybody start somewhere) Every action has a reaction and if you torment someone long enough they're going to snap in one way or another.

there reaction was to burn down a $300,000 skatepark because they may of been bullied around?!?!? wtf. i think the kids should be tourtered then burnt. i hate when kids vandalize other peoples shit. they have no excuse to of set it on fire. the park looked real nice too. it's ashamed that kids can't respect other peoples property.

I have been bullied and made fun of all the time through my surfing, skating, etc. It has made me a better surfer. It gives you that burning desire to GET better, to show them. I think bullying is a great thing.

OK, so I was groggy and saying it was justified was way over the top (and not what I intended) but I get pissed off at the parks when I see that type of shit. That and crowds is why we built this at my sister's old house. We just started a bigger version of this (36 wide instead of 18) at her new place and are adding a 4th ramp to the layout.

Oh no the arson isn't funny at all... I never thought about the fact that he might have been saying the arson isn't funny. I just assumed he was refering to my joke...

That completely sucks. Now the skaters have to lobby the city to provide even more money to rebuild the park. The town or city will not be happy about doing that cause all the old ladies don't want their money going to some "punk hangout."

The park director said it is their plan to rebuild it as soon as possible. The city is also building another 10,000 square foot concrete "skate plaza" type park in Virginia Beach which is set to open in the spring I believe.

I read this in the comments, and I'd have to agree witht he poster if that IS the case... idk whats truth tho... good luck guys

I read the self serving comment that this park is somehow a place for a person to "perfect" their craft. If memory serves it was built with tax payer money. Not just one group of tax payers or their parents. Not just a private company who was trying to give something back. It was built with the collective tax dollar. In that sense it "Belonged" to everyone. So the statement that this park is only for the "big Boys" just nails it in my bones that this thing should be left to ashes and better left to plant a garden. If there are 5 year olds or 10 year olds there with their parents or gaurdians then they should have just as much chance to get on and "play" as the "Big Boys". You want a private club? Fund your own park. Until then, I hope this part of the park is buried along with the rest of the trash.

I can see where that guy is coming from, but at the same time, i see what the original poster meant. Its true that alot of parks aren't a good place for little kids to just roll around and play and stuff. yes there are a lot of younger skaters that know how to act in a park, but a lot of little kids are oblivious to whats around them and don't understand that its not jsut them in there. I used to skate when i was younger, and i remember eating shit many times trying to dodge little kids on their razor scooters and what not. I agree that they shouldn't always be in there. At the same time though, it becomes the same problem that most cities have with skating/bmx in beneral-"we don't want them in our area, but at the same time, there's nowhere else for them to go".

The only way to resolve it is to require an age limit on the bowl and have another one for the younger children to skate or do whatever on. That is one of the only ways you can make it fair really
