(reason it looks weird is b/c it's dual mons staggered to mimic the physical location of the screens, i.e. if I move my mouse from the top left corner of my laptop widescreen it'll pop up somewhere around the middle of the LCD I have to the left)

You should see my other computers.

On both my LT's there are just piles of icons (over 100) on the work LT.

On my media computer...I keep that clean though.

I barely ever see my desktop. Usually have windows up, and Alt+Tab between them, and if I need to open up an app I just Alt+C with my left thumb (on my laptop, on my desktop I use Alt+X b/c the keyboard's different) to open up Launchy

I never really see my desktop either because I can Eposé all windows with a mouse click, but knowing that I have a shit load of stuff scattered all over under there bugs me. I downloaded an app called Camouflage that covers up all my desktop icons and with a double click on the desktop brings up a Finder (I'm on a Mac) window with all my desktop stuff on it. Cleans it up but still gives me easy access to all the shit I use regularly.

haha and the best part is, that's my work laptop, and I sit at the entrance to the room w/ the water cooler in it. Meaning everybody in my office that passes by while I'm away from my desk (which is often) gets to see it.
