Default Car Audio - shot in the dark

I need an AUX adapter for the factory stereo in my 05 Camry. I know about my options (but open to suggestions as long as it starts with a toyota cd changer port and ends w/ RCA or 1/8" and doesn't involve FM) , I just don't know about availability. I'd like to put it in this weekend if I can get it locally, but if I can't, I'd like to go ahead and order it. Can you buy these types of manufacturer-specific adapters at Circuit city or best buy (or any local audio stores), or would they have to order it as well? Because if they have to order it, I'll just order it online tonight. I'm impatient. I did read on a forum somewhere that a guy got one (actually for an 05 camry) at circuit city. But I can't get the car audio dept to pick up the damn phone.

Has anybody had experience with buying these things in-store?

You want to keep the factory head unit but get an aux adapter? I didn't even know that you could get an actual adapter, I thought you had to use some sort of FM transmitter.
Don't bro me if you don't know me.

yessir. Looking at either PAC (AUX-BOX2 & AB-TOYX) or PIE TOY03. Both run in the 50-60 range. If I could buy locally I'd prob go as high as 70.

Yeah adapters like these exist for pretty much anything (factory or aftermarket) w/ a CD changer port

Could you post your eventual solution? I'm looking to do the same thing to an 04 Montero

There's two components - one is just adds an aux/3mm. Then both those companies make a "controller" of sorts that allows some level of control for an IPOD. I had an iPod2Car made by Peripheral electronics that would do the latter (also needed an OEM CD changer harness):

FWIW, I never have any luck finding this kind of stuff at local retail and just always order to prevent frustration.

Here's an install in an '05 Camry in fact:

yeah, but I need either aux or 1/8" out, b/c I have a Zune, and plus I like to be able to plug other devices. I think you may be right about needing to just go ahead and order it though.

Doh! Yeah, order up. We did just an Aux in the X5 before we traded it and it was pretty swell. We used it with an Ipod and even a notebook on a trip to pipe the audio from a DVD into the stereo. I was happy the 4Runner had one standard - they should put that in ALL cars.

yeah I lucked out big time w/ my current (soon to be former) car. My deese '01 Pioneer started skipping too much and a friend of mine gave me his brand new Dynex from his wife's totalled car ( like a month after I installed it for him). He got this thing for like 40 bucks from the clearance rack at Best Buy and I wasn't even able to find a single link to it on the internet. I had to figure out the wiring on my own. Anyway even though the thing pretty much sucks as a CD player, it happened to have AUX in, so all I had to buy was a Y cable from Radio shack for 10 bucks and run it down the trim out by my seatbelt. Bonus.

I could sit in your passenger seat singing your music to you through a paper cup and it would sound better than an FM transmitter.
