Those are so cool. Some of the colors make it look unrealistic and too perfect, but it still looks awesome.

I'm pretty sure he wouldn't go all the way to Alaska to shoot fake photos. I'm assuming you guys are referencing the brighter hue of the water. I'm digging around as to why it is so blue and I'm pretty sure it has something to do with glacial ice and reflections into glacial lakes.

I'm not sure where this one is, might be AK but it might be Europe.

My brother was killed in an avalanche on Mount Foraker. My other brother and I rented out a bush plane to fly around and look for his body. The pilot was amazing, he got us so close to the mountain and the turbulence/wind was so intense I thought we were gonna hit the side a couple times. I don't like Mt. Foraker.

My other brother was murdered 18 months later. Be glad you're not my brother, they don't tend to live very long.

At the time he was pretty much a professional climber, when he wasn't climbing around the world he was teaching at NOLS (national outdoor leadership school). Mortality rates of high risk climbers are pretty high and he knew the risks and did his best to neutralize them. We never did find his body but in hindsight that's for the best - he would rather be part of the mountains he loved.

One of the climbers in his group (of 3) lived, crawled down with a broken back, leg, etc and his survival story was the subject of a book. Pretty amazing.

Tom was my oldest brother, like 10 years older and I just loved it when he came home from his climbing trips with the most amazing stories. He pioneered a route on Ogre Stump in Pakistan and the Sierra Club made a greeting card of him reaching the summit. Here is a shitty digi pic of the card...he told me the drop to the left is over 5,000 ft. He's roped in but still....

meh, that's only 18,045 feet. He made that climb while waiting for another guy to show up to climb one of the bigger mountains in the range. Since they were the first to climb it, like discovering a skim spot, they got to name it. Him and his friend named it 'Ogre Stump'.

I can post some excerpts from the book if anyone's interested. It's called 'In the zone, epic survival stories from the mountaineering world' by Peter Potterfield.
