Three Floyds Pappy van Winkle Dark Lord

and we began the night time debauchery with a good ole fashioned game of beer pong. The primary contribution to the game was the 3 litre bottle of Russian River Supplication - Batch 06

What an incredible night; the graciousness of these guys was unsurpassed, I could hardly thank them enough. Feels good to live in America's finest beer city. Come to SD you beer nerds!! And Geoff, I used the snifter you sent me. It rocks. Cheers all

Since the top of the week is whaling, I shall contribute.

2011 Southampton Peconic County Reserve - Saison brewed with chardonnay grapes and aged in oak chardonnay barrels for a year. (200 bottle count)

2012 Hill Farmstead - Ann - Honey saison aged in french oak wine barrels. 160 bottles released. The soon to be #1 beer on BA; frack yo izzy, dan.

Hill Farmstead - Art - Saison aged in wine barrels (batch 3)

And lastly, quite possibly the best non-barrel aged imperial stout out there. Evil Twin - Imperial Biscotti Break

My beer life is worthless after the last 14 pictures...fuuuuuck.

Tonight was Bells Hopslam Ale --> Cigar City Tocobaga --> 2011 Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale....and they all were damn good.

I told ThatGuy this already...but August-September at Cigar City is going to be amazing!
    1) Huge batch of White Oak Jai Alai finally making the rounds again. loved this beer when I bought my first 6er and havent seen it in months.
    2) Guava Grove Farmhouse. I believe I had the version that they used a sour strain in...they have since gone back to their original recipe (sans the sour strain) which I guess people liked better because the sour strain messed things up.
    3) Good Gourd Imperial Pumpkin Ale- BA #5 pumpkin ale.
    4) Marshall Zhukov RIS- released around Sept so that it reaches what they consider perfect aging for the winter weather come Dec/Jan

I missed a lot of limited releases (tasting room only) lately (Barrel Aged Hunahpu, Barrel Aged Church on a Hill, 20 IPA treatments for IPA day)...I wish Tampa was closer than 2 hours away...

I'm super excited for the Zhukov release. I missed out on last years release; from what I was told, it sold out in a weekend here.

bum - do the Guava Grove bottles have batch information on them? I would love to pick up a few bottles of the sour strain version before they go the route Dogfish went with Festina.

Festina used to be super tart (like a berliner weisse is supposed to be), however, dogfish head, in the interest of sales, dumbed down the tartness so the beer would appeal to the average drinker.

Negative...I dont think CCB puts much batch info on their bottles, unless they are a really limited release, in which I typically see them Sharpied on the label. I have only even seen a white date stamp on bottles (i.e. JAN 2011). One way might be to look at the label, since they changed the label at some point in time (though I am not sure...it might be possible you could find both versions under one label).

Good luck finding the sour version though..they supposedly got rid of it a while ago...there is clearly some people in BA who review it as tart and sour, and others who review it as skunky-funky-musky. I had the tart and heavily carbonated version probably a year ago now. Cigar City says: "The first run was the same strain we're using now. We went to a sour strain soon after and well that caused more headaches than we intended so now we're back to the original. The tartness is more subtle with the yeast we're using now. If we could have a consistent and controlled sour program we'd love to do it (the sour version again)."

Was this between last year and this year?

I didn't have enough of it last year to make a proper comparison, but I love tartness so to know they lowered it really rustles my jimmies.

My old watering hole just started selling through whole foods. If you get a chance, pick yourself up some Cloverdale Ale, or their Monster Brown (my personal favorite for a couple years). High alcohol, high flavor.
On another note: Blue Moons Pumpkin Havest Ale was great. Best one I've had in a 6er.
    And then?

Local beers today from O'Connor Brewing Co. right here in Norfolk, VA.

Norfolk Canyon Pale Ale and Great Dismal Black IPA. I'm excited for the Great Dismal, I've heard good things about it and the cross between a porter and IPA intrigues me.

Didnt see anyone else post good ol' natty boh so i figured i would, It certainly isnt anything new but if your in Maryland i suggest you grab a 12pack because you cant buy it outside of Md and ya cant beat it for only 6$ its not the best tasting beer but is the best tasting among other cheap beers imo. And it hails from baltimore where you can find it on tap at almost any bar. On the label youll notice it says "from the land of pleasant living" which is in reference to the chesapeake bay. If you are in the inner city of baltimore you may find yourself being robbed but provided you are there you might as well make the best of the situation and pick up some boh ice since it can only be bought in the inner city.

Also in they are bringing back national premium which is said to be the Budlight platnum of natty boh according to the old timers around where i live, it should be availlable in md in march of 2013

Great Dismal is fracking fantastic!!! Probably the best beer that our area puts out. Of the beers I've sent to SDSkim I was most stoked for him to have that.

Such a well balanced example of the style.

I had been meaning to pick up some of their beers, and my mom surprised me by buying some for me yesterday. I was stoked. I've heard a lot of good things about the dismal, so I can't wait to try it. I had the pale ale last night, it was good. Nothing outstanding, but I'd keep it as a regular in my fridge to toss back with some friends.

I woulda thought it wasn't nutty enough .

You should check out the Dogfish AleHouse before you move. There's one in Fairfax and one in Falls Church.
