Hmm. You should PM SDSkim, he is the brewer extraordinare these days. Word on the street is that he is brewing a candied ginger pale ale.

It ended up being a ginger/sweet orange brown ale. Its pretty decent, I thought it would be horrifying. Anyway, I think the best was to get absolutely every last bit of syrub out of the bag is to brew all-grain. Haha kidding, but yeh I've never brewed extract, so my input is moot. Maybe wadds has?

check to see if the malt extracts you like to use are available in cans. cans are super easy, you can heat them in warm water to thin the malt and scoop the rest out with your stir spoon, donzo. i've never tried bags so i'm not sure if there's a difference in quality...

I would like to brew all grain in the future, but for my first stab at brewing, kit was the way to go.

Well its about time you got on that shit Utah! Like jsteez said, you can probably reduce the viscosity of the extract with hot water to make it a little easier to get out. Additionally, if you feel like you need to go a step further, warm up about a half gallon of water or so on the side and use it to rinse the bag out. Of course, you are going to want to make sure the bag is clean before hand, but it doesn't need to be sanitized, since its all going to be boiled for an hour anyway. Once you've gotten most/all of the extract out of the bag, just add the rinse water to the kettle.
There's a good chance you've handled my ass-pennies. That gives me the edge.

Thanks. Will try the warm water next time. Probably didn't help that the syrup was stored in the fridge till the time I needed it, so it was pretty cold...

    Awwww yissssss. Motha. fracking. Hopslam.

Lets see what the hype is about. Better be worth it for the price I paid ($16.99/six). Ive seen up to $25 a six, so I am happy. Our store got 20 cases and posted that they were in around 2PM Saturday. Limit (2) six packs. Somehow I called today and they had 2 cases left. Probably be gone by tomorrow, sans a few single bottles in the cooler. If I can find someone, I might trade the other six pack (or some from it) for some west coast beers...still havent touched any Russian River or Alpine to my lips.

Again my store still amazes me with Lagunitas prices...$3.99 a bottle for Cap Stout. The employee said one week he bought Hop Stoopid everyday after work and drank one a day.

EDIT: had to have one tonight. Its quite good. I mean really good. I see where the hype is.

had one of these last night. it was pretty good, but didnt blow me away. i like spicier "oktoberfest" style beers and this just wasnt what i had in mind. though i realize its kind of out of season by now.

i picked up an old ruffian barley wine style ale also that ill be trying tonight or tomorrow. i want to see if its similar to avery's "hog heaven" because i like that beer a lot

Well frack me. My dad went to my local shop and picked me up another bottle. #breakingrules

A & R should be announcing their tasting/raffle soon so I should be able to snag another one or two of these.
