I don't know what it is about here Sam but I get every Abita beer and seasonals. Abita is one great brewery that I will tour one day. Took the Terrapin tour and it was sikk, good brews and live music. Next is Sweetwater and then to Abita in the near future. Would like to hit native brewery while in FL for new years.

p.s. just drank my last pecan harvest--so rippin w/ a piece of GA. pecan pie. Dessert was good after leftover turkey and dressing.

Drinking Landshark right now... Thought I'd give it a go.

Most of you have already tried it I'm sure, so no need to describe.

Its decent, but IMO, beer should not come in a clear bottle.

I had it for the first time last night and I thought it tasted like a cross between Sands and Kalik. I didn't really enjoy it but it wasn't unpleasant either. I give it a solid "Meh."

meh for sure! $14 for a 12pack.............and it's brewed in Jax...........I never buy that stuff. I actually like the beer but @ that price and it's a domestic--never going to get a spot in my fridge.

I had some good ones lately:

* 2007 Peoples Pine Imperial Stout - WOW, Darklord and Darkness take notes! My favorite Imperial Stout to date!

* 2006 (Batch 2) Avery Mephistopheles' Stout vs 2008 (Batch 4) Avery Mephistopheles' Stout - funny how just 2 years in the cellar for this HUGE stout opened up the flavors SO much.

* 2006 Old Marley Barleywine - This one had some definite nutty oxidation notes but still held some carbonation and the mouthfeel was full. On it's way down really.

* 2007 Port Santa's Little Helper Imperial Stout - another new amazing stout for me.

* 2007 DuPont Moinette Bruin - Nothing overly complex but beautiful with christmas eve's beef tenderloin.

* 2007 Smuttynose Barleywine - Big, chewy, full of east coast barleywine goodness.

* 2006 Wayerbacher Blithering Idiot - Lovely at two years on this huge English style barleywine.

* 2007 Divine Reserve 5 - This is one of my all time favorite beers. At a year and a half much of the roasted flavors have become quieter allowing the tobacco, dark fruit and bakers chocolate to push through more. Wonderful and sadly, my last bottle.

* 2008 Divine Reserve 6 (June) - The hops are mellowing out and the mouthfeel is filling out. Wow, my new favorite west coast *STYLE* barleywine for sure!

* 2007 Anchor Our Special Ale (Christmas Ale) - If you got these, sit on them. Just getting better with age. Lovely beer!

I think one of those was actually bottle _in_ PA (where we were for XMas). Really looking forward to the monthly new selections - I'll make sure to critique and post in this thread.

I had a fantastic brew at Fatheads and f**k me I cannot remember the name - it was super malty, butterscotch with a honey/clover kind of finish. I'll post if I remember (or maybe they have their beer menu online...)

Ipswitch makes some class beers for sure. Thier oatmeal stout and IPA are wonderful. Abita is ok, in my eyes. Turbodog is great with crawfish... yet to try the Jackamo. Let me know what you think of them.

I was at my distributor picking up a case of Hop Devil, and I asked the guy who works there if anything new came in. He said, "Well, Troegs Nugget Nectar..." and I just about shit a brick, "...should be in soon." Aaaaarrrrgh! I was like, "WTF dude, I know its coming SOON, don't mention the name to me until its actually here! That or HopSlam." Until I have either of those, I probably won't have anything to contribute.

Breckenridge Brewery Avalanche Ale - an amber ale from Breck's microbrewery. And although not new to me, tons of Fat Tire.

Earlier this week I strolled into my local distributor and what did I see? A whole pallet of Troegs Nugget Nectar. Obviously I bought a case and have been enjoying one or two every night. Then, last night I went to the Drafting Room (a great craft brew bar 5 mins. from my house), and they had Bell's Hop Slam (in bottles).

A word about the two beers:

Nugget Nectar - A seasonal release by Troegs from Harrisburg, PA. A self-described "Imperial Amber" (I say "self-described" because I'm not aware of any other brewers brewing this style), its friggin delicious. Typically, ambers have a much more prevalent malt profile, but this creation is so jam-packed with high-alpha domestic hops that it is appealing to APA and IPA fans - probably much more so than an amber/red drinker. The aroma is outstanding, and certainly dominated by citrusy (most notably grapefruit) domestic hops. The up-front taste is pleasant because of how well the beer is balanced. Its not harsh, but the bitterness is certainly there, while the alcohol notes warm the mouth in the background. Mouthfeel is on the light side to me and seems to disappear as soon as it registers. But the real story here is in the finish, 'cause so much is still going on after the 7% ABV nectar has evacuated your oral cavity and busied itself by turning you into a quivering mess of slurred speech and embarrassing displays of infantile motor "skills". The finish starts as a resiny pine sensation and develops into a strong apricot flavor - not like a shitty Magic Hat #9-overwhelmingly-boring-one-hit-wonder-apricot, but an apricot that politely knocked on your palate's door just to let you know that apricot's in the neighborhood, and here's apricot's business card just in case you're interested in what apricot's offering. Then, apricot's gone, and so you grab that business card and make that call and apricot's there again, as pleasant as ever. Its a wonderful relationship, until some other jerk-ass buys the last case of Nugget Nectar and you have to wait until next January to see this particular apricot again. So yeah, its good.

Bell's Hop Slam - Phenomenal. So good, it wasn't until I was finishing my third consumption and already ordered my fourth that I remembered it was a "Double IPA". I was completely sold on the beer but was curious as to what the brewer had to say about it. It was at that point that I saw the 10% ABV. All I can say is that its a good thing its a seasonal, cause the ABV takes it out of the realm of a session beer for any person with even the slightest notion of responsibility, yet its tastiness compels you to consume more and more.

Haven't had Longtrail BW, or Orval (looks like the single product is Orval Trappist Ale - sounds amazing, plus some brewed only for consumption by monks?).

Newcastle is always and infinitely drinkable - it's a great fallback (and draft around here in several places).
