get good enough at skimboarding and it is pretty much the same as surfing.

ive been skimming for 5 years. i actually know how to one step and can skim quite well. i was just seeing if it would make sense to do it. i think i am going to be 2 surfboard fins and somehow make a way to detach them from my skmboard leaving everything flush. i thinkn it would be uber siick.

my older brother is a natural at boardsports, but he rarely gets a chance to skim even though he enjoys it, so it's the one sport i'm better then him at, and whenever he comes out he talks about how awesome it would be to get a fin on a skimboard, so i have to explain some logistics to him, like the fact that you would have to deep water drop EVERYTIME, the fin would catch the sand all the time when you where getting barrelled, and that you wouldn't be able to side slip (which would kill me because im way better at side slipping then pumping)

i can see it possibly working if you are getting towed in, or if you are a badass and have the smoothest deep water drop around, but i dont think it's very practical, and it would kind of take away some of the funner and more challenging aspects of skimming, i think that if you want a fin, you should get a really short surfboard

a fin would only work if you do a monkey drop, you could get some wicked lines with a fin..

it is absolutely worthless to but a fin on a skim. you want more drive at the cost of losing your ability to side slip? then get a channel bottom skim. you want really long lines and in and out barrels? then go out and buy a SURFBOARD and then bust your ass learning how to ride it. i dont understand why people try to "skim/surf" and try and come up with other half baked ideas of how to blend the two sports. honestly....whats the point in having a skimboard with a single fin or thruster set on the bottom of it? so you can paddle into waves? thats what surfboards are for!

dude you really do love to skim, live a little dude. The fin dont put a surfboard fin thats a little too uhh big look at like the phase five fins or cut the fin down a bit so you wont have to drop as deep and stuff.

i'm pretty sure you could still side slip even if you had 1" wakeboard fins on it, and you would still get the traction in the water.

no you really probably couldnt it would cause drag which would probably slow you down a little and either dip your front rail in the water sending you flying forwards or dip your back slowing you down tremedousley, and make it really shakey

yeah, if you didnt use it as a skimboard by dropping it in deeper water then you wouldnt be able to use it, because if you did what was normal on a surfboard you probably wouldnt be able to float well enough to paddle into a wave, then it would be hard as hell to get up on it due to its smaller size, and even if you did the pressure on the board would probably sink right there. I dont think it's a very good idea..

If you put a fin on a skimboard and used it to surf then there would be no differance between that and a really short shortboard. It would be a huge waste of time
