The J-Gordon Retro Fish is the nicest board I've ever ridden.
he's superman
he'll also be forgotten in 2 months.
8 for 8. Greatest performance in Olympic history.

megadeath is right though
he will probly be forgotten in like a year
it happened to this 19 year old ping pong player too
and now no one knows his name
The J-Gordon Retro Fish is the nicest board I've ever ridden.
the dude shaves his legs. c'mon
im sorry michelle kwan? what did she do again? Thats right figure skating is still fracking gay.
i could really care less about tiger woods cuz golf is pretty boring.
i care alot about phelps right now, but, ill forget in a month
IMO, swimming is more boring than golf. Infact, all of the olympics are boring to me. hm... Maybe it's cause I play golf.
i like watching volley ball and then water polo is pretty cool
The J-Gordon Retro Fish is the nicest board I've ever ridden.
Michael Phelps still has 8 gold medals, which is pretty insane. He also revolutionized swimming by just being himself, pretty influential dude
how does that revolutionize swimming
b/c i mean revolutionize is a strong word

revolutionized? no. The man who made the first pool revolutionized swimming.
revolutionized? how is his performance going to change the way people swim? Single handed? What about his coach, trainer, and the guy who gives him steroids?Originally Posted by dukiedude13
haha revolutionized. Martin Luther King Jr. revolutionized. Not Phelps.
I hate how fracks like megadeath keep on trying to argue phelps accomplishments. He just won 8 fracking gold medals, shut the frack up.

Teacher: Jonah cap off and balls on the ground... Jonah what are you doing?
Jonah: You said to put my balls on the ground miss...
well i mean 8 metals is sort of a big deal
i just wanted everyone to see how close of a finish it was

how am I knocking him down? yes. 8 is HUGE. in olympic standards. But did ANYONE on this board remember who spitz was? yah. so shut the frack up. I am not downsizing his accomplishments or his ability at all, I am simply stating that he is not the be all end all athlete of all time.
the reason no one knew who spitz was on here was b/c he won 7 in the 1972 olympics. Most of this board wasn't born then, so that's not a fair comparison. Everybody is talking about phelps right now, old ladies, young guys young girls, old dudes, 5 year olds. I guarantee you not even 1/10th of them will follow the rest of his non-olympic career but I also guarantee a SHITLOAD of people will remember watching his performance in Bejing for many years to come.
But a record like that. People should of known.
Kids today are still Ruth fans. Time usually does the reverse of what you claim but build the image of someone that achieved greatness in sports.
The fact is Americans only give a shit about the medal count. Phelps will be forgotten in time because he is in a sport the general American public does not care about.
I tip my hat to him and understand the true greatness he achieved.

That's why I commend Phelps on his outstanding performance but don't agree with the best Olympian ever talk. IMO a single gold medal performance in the decathlon or heptathlon is a much bigger display of athleticism yet we never hear a thing about them.Originally Posted by narwhal
yeah but he's 7/8 on BREAKING the world record... that's some stiff competition there.
Im still so surprised by the Aussie men, we usually do really well in the swimming. Its like all our legends retired and the young guns cant pick up the fracking slack.
Aussies are great swimmers but the huge last mens' relay is an event I believe the Americans have never lost.

In a pool that was specially engineered to produce world records. They said before the Olympics even started that they expected just about every swimming record to be broken and sure enough almost every single race (womens also) produced a Olympic or world record.Originally Posted by ZapBulletRider

wow, I didn't realize that. Still impressive. Yeah I mean don't get me wrong, decathlon is fracking sick. Phelps is just a beast, physically, though. I mean look at him. Anybody that can eat 12000 calories a day and stay under 8% body fat (I'm guessing based on appearance) is a tremendous athlete.
I think the true part which was impressive to me was the goggles filling up with water and he swam blind almost for 75m. Bob Castas brought up a sick comparison which is funny...that's sort of like Tiger Woods playing in the Open with a torn knee..and not bitching about a hurdle in the way.

What did they do to the pool to make it so fast?
-Jeff
to tiger's credit, he probably wouldn't bitch about a torn knee. He's a good athlete, a hell of a competitor, and obviously a talented golfer. For me though, I'm more impressed with raw physical prowess, and in phelps' case, he obviously possesses impenetrable drive and competitiveness as well. I mean honestly, all the hype around him, how could you not expect him to choke in at least one of those races. Especially since they happen so fast.Originally Posted by narwhal

Well thats teh difference. I think it would be more difficult to be calm enough to make a long putt, than to win a race. Yes the olympics are bigger than just one masters, but its not like dubbs is thinking in his head, well... it IS only a masters.... I mean tiger has the pressure and contains it, and still performs.
See with me...as someone mentioned before.
Tiger Woods has achieved perfection countless time. He's just dominated and blown away the field. Woods has been an amazing golfer since being what 5 years old? Phelps has only achieved perfection in two events as a whole...the 2007 World Championship and the 2008 Olympics. (those are the only two reported) I once again am not trying to take anything away from Phelps but once again it's comparing apples and oranges.
