    Default SUP (Stand UP Paddling)

...is in every magazine this month - just read yet another article in MF. I mean it's been around forever, but just a good bit of recent attention. Seems like a good way to mix up a good workout, some flat water fun and pick up the occasional wave like a long board.

I could understand that after seeing the people density in some spots, but around here, the beach is basically deserted, especially on weekdays.

Seems like some potential fun, though I'll probably just pick up a [regular] long board again.

I dont get why they waste all that carbon fiber on the paddle, or at least Alpine does. So dumb, useless stuff like that is why carbon costs so much.

i hate it, they get in my way when surfing and scare the shit out of me when i have to duck dive under a 10 foot board that is 1 foot thick being rode by someone who has no clue what they are doing.

...and they say us longboarders are wave hogs.

Its very expensive. If I was gonna spend that kind of money, I'd get a kiteboard set up.

Yeah frack kiteboarding, I saved a guy off of Grand Haven Pier cause his board fell of from his feet, so he landed back in the water to get it, then got caught by a rip current, and his kite was pulling him out to sea. He was lucky I can swim like a dolphin.

Kiteboarding seems kind of cool, but it appears to be way too equipment intensive. For f**ks sake I see these guys hauling all this gear out around here and spending like 30-40 minutes laying out the kite/cords, fiddling with harnesses, etc.

At least with skim/surf or even SUP, you drop your board in the water - you're ready. Otherwise it's sort of like a boat boardsport (2 hours of prep / cleanup).

Nice vid. That thing handles like a canoe! (Look how hard he digs in with the paddle). You get a good sense of the size too compared to the guy on the regular board, holy hell.

that board is enormous. i don't see why you need to have that large of a board in surf that big.
