Default fires at 26th street in santa cruz?

are you allowed to have fires on the beach there? i am planning on going there tomorrow for an end of the year party with friends. and a bunch of people want to burn all their old school work ant whatnot.

so does anyone know if there are firepits or anything there?

there are no grills or pits, but i have seen people burn stuff on the beach there before with their own hand dug pits. But if you do that make sure you dont burn anything with nails and put it out so its not still smoldering under the sand the next day.
If you go down to the beach where they sell the parking permits there are fire pits, that would probably be a better call.

yeah as far as I know you can build fires there, as teddy said be concious about it... as last I recall the cops step in at 10 pm and tell you to leave, well unless they can't see your fire from the street... but yeah your suppose to be done by ten, no camping out or anything, though I've seen hippies get away with it.

Most people that I've seen dig holes up against the rocks so its hard to see from the street. I hardly see cops on the beach down there. A bunch of people drink and smoke down there and have no problem. I haven't been down there much as all since last summer though.
Be careful if you park in the parking lot too. I've had a couple of friends get their cars broken into at night there.

Yeah, just head around the corner so the cops can't see it from the street (watch the tide). Cops never ever come down on the beach there.

Be sure to cover your coals really well, and make sure it is safe to walk over when you are done. A few years back I was staying in a house on the beach in Seaside, Oregon. Me and a bunch of my cousins were all headed down to the water. The sand was really hot, they all took the main trail and I kind of just went overland through the dunes directly in front of the house.

I could see them all hotstepping (walking on tip-toes) and running down to the wet sand because the dry sand was so hot. I felt it too, and was doing the same. It felt insanely hot to me, and I couldn't believe how those little kids were running on it with no problem. I got to the water and looked down at my feet in the wash, and it looked like I was standing on white jellyfish. But it wasn't jellyfish, the skin had fallen off the bottom of my feet and was just kind of hanging on around the edges. We traced my steps back and I had walked right through the coals of a fire from the night before. They were just covered in sand and unnoticeable, but the sand above them was really hot. It pretty much wrecked two days for me because I had basically no tough skin left on the bottom of my feet.

So let that be a lesson, make sure your coals are safe for walking before you leave the beach.
