im good at deep water dropping imo but it will slow you down. try dropping right where the incoming water and the sand meet and you will go much faster

its not your one stepping that is the problem; its the amount of water youre doing it onto.

If your water dropping back foot then place your foot more towards the middle when you first drop and then move it back.

if your ever out in so cal. take lessons from this man. he got that shit on lock haha.

but really ..to do a sucessful water drop you have to be able to get on your board at full speed without any stutter step before you get on your board. otherwise...you'll sink fast. just try practicing on the thin water on the shore...just get on your board as fast as you can at full stealth speed

I learned about a month ago. I just stuck with it for a day and it starts to become pretty natural. It really helps. Good thing to be able to do

if you front step it should not be a problem for you at all. just drop the board right when it hits the flowing water comin towards you and get on like you wold always do.

if you backstep, try to drop in front of you and get on towards the middle of the board with your back foot, pull it to a side slip if you can, and slide your back foot back to the usual position once you are ready to show the wave whatsup

someitmes it helps ppl to practice on dry sand at first so you don't have to chase your board.
Over time you step will get smoother and you will keep your speed. Owning your one step will let you access a lot more waves. Then you can work on ur side slip.

Another key point ppl forget when telling ppl how to water drop is to drop as the water is moving towards you. Once the water is stopped or going back out to sea, it's going to make you go slower, not faster.

water drops can be very useful if the beach is rocky or there is short wave periods. imo it's worth mastering

Water drops are a pain in the ass..

On the incoming wave as its crashing onto the shore, use this as your focal point, you need to be dropping the board on the backside of that first wave...the smooth surface from that point to the next incoming wave face should be no problem. It's just getting your timing right and getting used to the fact that you have to trust the ocean so you don't epic face plant.

    Hope that helps!

What I find is that when people drop, they seem to bring their feet up a few inches off the sand to get on the board. When I drop, I try to keep my feet as close to the water or sand as possible to keep the momentun going forward instead of pushing downward on the board.

the key to any drop regardless of water depth is how smooth the transition is. You want to 'walk on to' the board as opposed to jumping on it.... Losing as little speed as possible and distributing your weight as evenly as you can.

Anybody who has a good drop makes it look fluid and effortless.

yeah thats true mapdash...if you watch videos of people w/ really smooth drops you dount even notice him/her getting onto the board. its like all one motion. it shouldnt be in seperate steps.
nfarino117: Do you just use a paint pen on top of the front of your board? Or do you have to take it apart?

yeah i no-step water drop 99% of the time as well, its really how smooth you can get on and keeping a nice steady stance, you lose your balance your going to lose all your speed and sink really really really fast
