Default Roush + other Skim Q's?

Hey I am kinda new to Skimboarding but I had some questions about Roush skims and boards in general? I found this Surftech/Roush Morphius - 51" epoxy for $265 . I am 6'1" 185lbs. I was wondering how roush compares to other skims and if this one in particular is the right size/type for my build.

Secondly is it really worth it for wave skim riding to get S-glass/carbon products vs. a lower end Eglass? Basically as a relative newb to wave skim riding is there a noticeable difference between them?

Last question is about board length. Besides certain size for weight classes, what does different board lengths do in terms of catching waves and what is generally a good length?

Thanks for replies in advance I know its a lot of Q's, but any input will help me out!

in regards to the second question....to a beginner you most likely will not need an Sglass or carbon board. It would take you a while before you would be good enough to appreciate the difference and by that time you will want to upgrade anyway.

oh and I weigh the same as you and ride a Lg exile. So that might be a good guide to get a length estimate.

Smaller will be more maneuverable but with less float.

A lrg will be fine from most board companies.....except vic.....they run big so maybe a ML or M from them.

The size of the board matters a lot. Some prefer a little smaller board size to be able to turn it easier and some may prefer a larger board for more flotation. E-glass all the way until you get better. Never seen a Roush before. Probably better off going with the bigger name brands.

Thanks for both responses that pretty muched somed up what I was thinking aswelll when it came to the more expensive stuff. It also helps narrow down the search too. I didnt really know what kind of search I was in for till I started looking for a skimboard. Its been a learning experience thats for sure.

(edit) I also found a Slotstik 300 Series are they any good?

Lots of people like their Roush boards a lot, they're definitely the dominant brand in Santa Cruz. It's also nice 'cause you can go grab one off the rack right now for a good price. If you're in SC ask someone riding one of them if you can try it out, everyone is super chill and will let you try it.

unfortunatly I dont live in Santa Cruz, but i do live in huntington beach so there are plenty of places to look for boards and waves to skim with all the different locations by my house.

Besides Victoria what other brands are based around the Socal area?

if your looking at roushes get the rasta pro. roush himself even admits its a much better board then the morphius. and i knw board size corresponds to float but my roush is MUCH smaller than my large vic ultra, but they have the same float(but the roush turns rediculously easier)

I heard from somebody that rides for roush that the rasta is just a lot faster than the morphius...but i also heard from somebody else who rides a morphius that its his favorite board.

They're built for different waves. The Rasta is better for all the smaller waves we spend most of our time in. The Morpheus has a bit more float and is built for larger, further out waves. Both have reputations of being sick boards.

Ya. well i know the morphius is supposed to be better because of more float, but Iv tried one once and noticed no extra float, just a little less turning ability.
still from my use of vic exile and roushs, i gotta say morphius or rasta is BY FAR the best choice.(that doesnt mean its the best board obviously, I know a carbon something oor other is better and whatnot, but its also twice as much)

The Morphius has a lot more rocker than the Rasta, and is thinner than the Rasta. This makes it better for turning but gives it less float. Right? Why would the Morphius float better? Because it is 1/2 an inch longer? That would change next to nothing.

And just a side note, I've tried them both and prefer the Rasta.

Well lets say that I live in Huntington Beach which is next to the wedge and other laguna breaks. Do you think the Morpheus could provide the extra float to get into the sidebreak at the wedge. I am guessing they probably would both work roughly the same, but in all honesty it sounds like I will get the rasta just because it sound slike it will be easier to learn on.

the amount of extra float is so little it wont make a difference. I think if you ask anyone whos tried botch they would say rastas better in any situation

i would get an epoxy as a first board unless you have a texillium or a carbon of any brand.

    Questions.
So you're looking for a thirdondary board really?
A XXL Vic isn't floaty enough for liners for you?
What do you do for a job that you throw money at a third board?

the epoxys are really good for liners. especially in places with a lot of rocks cuz they're like indestructible, and yea they are pretty floaty with a kinda flat rocker

1.not getting one, just wondering if they are good or not.

2.havent tried it on liners yet, ive been going to socal but i bet its gonna be dah shit.

3.i just save up money, by doing side jobs here and there, after a while it adds up. and im not "throwing money" at a third board because i never said i was going to get one. I always thought about it but never had time to go try one out cuz i havent been norcal in a whiile. so i got the XXL.

i just wanted to know what they are like and if they are durable. ( worth the money)
