holy frack that run was sweet
Decided to bump this thread because I'm shopping around for a good mini cruiser..I'm kind of wanting to stray away from sector 9 just because of some of the things that I've heard..Also, the board that I would buy from them has spray on grip and I highly dislike that kind of grip.
My friends little brother bought a G&S complete (retro ryder) from a board shop recently and I had the chance to ride it..It was such a fun board.. I really liked how responsive and loose the board was (although I don't have enough experience with tons of mini cruisers/longboards to really compare it to anyting)..Most of my friends have Sector 9's and Santa Cruz's so I had never heard of this brand..The only thing that I really know about G&S is that its a pretty OG skate brand and that they used to sponsor stacey peralta..
Right now I'm really leaning toward buying a G&S (either a retro ryder, warp tail, or winger) but I have a few questions..Has anyone had any experience with these boards (preferabley a complete)? If so, pros and cons..Is the retro ryder any different from the retro ryder ll? from what I've seen, they look like they have around the same shape, but I don't know if they changed anything about it..Also, what kind of wheels and trucks would you get? The complete comes with gullwing missions and I don't remember what kind of wheels, but should I opt to get different trucks and wheels?
tl;dr:
I don't know much about mini cruisers and I want to pick up a G&S retro ryder(or retro ryder ll) complete..good buy?
keep the trucks and wheels? if not, wich ones should I pick up?
Any other useful or interesting knowledge about G&S?
thanks guys

Mini Monster Hawgs are ideal for the topmount if you want no worrys about wheelbite.
Skated two races this weekend, one on my home hill which I won handily. It was smaller, 15 people competing but it was still fun. Bigger race today, faster too, pretty much a 25-30 mph sweeping left into a long ass 45mph bomb. Bigger race, 40 people in open, got second in that and only lost by a couple inches. I was super stoked being that i'm tall and light (155lbs/6') and dont have a fullface or leathers. Got an even bigger race in Pensacola this weekend, should be a dopeass time and I'm determined to win it.
Also, here's a short freeride edit someone did for me, nothing but bangers imo haha.

Yo Lax that video was great. I think doing a frontside stand up slide on the back wheels looks tough.
Ehh, theyre pretty easy to learn, but not so easy to hold out. Heelside manual checks and one footers are harder and toeside manual slides of any sort are the ones that are borderline impossible to do.
Here's a little more shameless self promotion.
This is a check, not a 180 and i'm goofy.

Sick pics Lax, i always look at dat shit on fb. Im thinking of getting a second board, one i can rip around like my switchblade, but that I can ollie and bust some street shit on, but I also want a bigger board with grippy wheels that I can whip around. So im thinking something like this:

Dont get the bears if you have any intention of leaving the ground, mine bent within my first air or two.

Got second in Carnage on the Coast in Pensacola and got first in the buttboarding race. Came home with a Bustin Robot, some Paris 180's, a Rayne mini cut from a Dseed, a couple shirts and some sunglasses. Combine that with the $100 and 2 sets of wheels I got from my two races last week and this whole longboarding thing is starting to look pretty profitable haha.

I did when I first started and then I realized most everyone on there would rather ride their keyboard than their skateboard. Its useful as a database of information, especially on boardbuilding, but its the shittiest forum to actually post on.
Quarterfinal
Final, protecting my gotdamn line
You can see the shadow of the guy behind me, he made the pass unfortunately. He's in the purple and gold leathers in the quarter final picture. (beat him in that heat)

I feel the same way. I definitely stopped going on silverfish when I started actually skateboarding. Its the exact same with car forums. I use 8thcivic.com for the buy/sell/trade but it seems like every post in the general discussion is either someone showing how ballin' their Mugen parts are or idiots complaining about how shitty the racing suspension they got feels on the street.
nice beating out the guys in fullfaces and leathers
yeah i never look on silverfish too often. SOMB is better, but I really only look on the fish for info on board building. speaking of which, I really like the new wolfshark, and i'm making a second version of my pointy board that i built over winter. very mild W concave, maybe slide rails outside of the concave, bit of rocker, but flat truck mounts. basically characteristics of the new wolfshark.
also i would like some calibers to replace my paris trucks.
sup with these penny boards? more neon hipster BS, or worth it?
Not sure, havent ridden one.

Saw some kid bombing a local decent sized hill on what appeared to be a new Time Machine, his stance was all wrong (no helmet), he had his back foot way back and his front foot was in the middle almost of the deck. Kid gets speed wabbles all the way down the hill until it hits the fastest part which is the end. He wabbles out and runs and kinda falls at the same time. It was pretty cool.
Doug I really want to get one only because it could fit in a backpack. But that said I've never tried one. Nor anything close in shape/size
A decent amount of guys here in norcal kill it with the back foot way back and the front foot almost in the middle of the deck.
Its that single kick steez, I have to ride like that when i'm on my ethos, just a fact of life. This is when i'm sliding though, I sure as frack dont DH like that.

Thats also usually an indy thing. Its weird to see kids do that on reverse geom trucks because it makes the ride so flipping unstable. Whatever.
Carnage edit

now, at like 48 seconds and stuff, are you not allowed to push? cause i would just push and be outta there. also they looked like 12 so that might be why?
oh damn lax, you rollin in cash. I sometimes skate with a kid who has one of those GMR's with truck bed liner on it and ronins. love that board. who wouldn't though right?
Those kids were really young, but you are allowed to bump draft. Pretty much you can give speed to someone, but not take it away or otherwise interfere. The goal is always as little contact between riders as possible, so if you can throw an air brake behind someone instead of bumping them, do that.

one of my friends just got a radar gun. lulz shall ensue.
Thatd be fun, I need to crack 60mph one of these days...

Me and my buddies just did the funniest shit. there's a hill that goes through some dorms right on campus we were doing, and some cars positioned themselves as to block the road. So we were in a line, and the guy in front slid, causing everyone behind him to slide. I was in the back, so the way the slide spread from front to back looked hilarious to me. everyone walking by looked at us funny though.
Cool story, hansel.
