did you mess with that car photo in post, david? it looks like a gradient mask, if only because the trees further back don't seem to really show depth of field.

i like the shot though.

I did wind up scoring a Nikon DSLR - I was going to do a D80, but wanted to wait for the D90 so we just did a D40. Figured it was a good starter anyway and cheap to enough to sell/backup if/when we upgrade to a D90. Picked it up with the kit 55mm and an extra 55-200mm VR.

BTW, if anyone is shooting in RAW/NEF and wants/needs bulk JPG conversion - there's a an add-in for GIMP called UFRaw - it's free and runs under a simple command-line - pretty simple to config.

I also need a new tripod - I figure something in the sub-$125 range? Need to be solid but portable.
