When you post pictures uncheck the box that says to retrieve locally.

Nice camera! What did you you pay for it? One of the best primes ever made was made for that camera. Super Takumar F1:1.4. Actually made with radioactive coatings that would yellow paper if placed on it. At eye level, the released measurable radiation too haha. The 1.8 will be fun

So there's that photography contest at my school. Theme is : Attraction / Repulsion and it's for the scientific symposium week. I have no idea what to shoot, or if one of my pictures could relate to the theme. Any ideas?

    @GnipGnop

Where is the "retrieve locally"? Is it under my post settings? And I got the spotmatic + 55mm 1.8 + a PROMATIC (i think thats what its called) 80-210mm f 3.8 + strap, original spotmatic box, case, and manuals for $32 + $18 ship = $50 total. I am thinking about selling the 1.8 for the 1.4, but so far the 1.8 is great. This is however, my first film SLR and i may be getting the film developed and such over the weekend, so i hope all the photos will turn out great!

Just bought a piece of #10 welder's glass. Time to start the ghetto DIY 10stop ND filter project

    edit: Test shots
    340s @ f/6.3
    Original

    Color corrected (tried at least)

Black and white seems the way to go. I also need to find a better way to attach it. using a rubberband and Cokin filter adapter isn't cutting it.

So a couple days ago I just aquired a Sony Alpha SLT-A33 for cheappppp. I already have a t2i an alright lens (sigma 18-250) and was wondering what you guys think of the sony. Ive only brought it out in my back yard and around the house to see how it handles and I was actually surprised how good the video quality and even the pictures came out. The auto focus during video seemed like it could be kind of nice for skim. Also im not sure if anyone else notices this but when I shot video with my t2i it seems to lag a little bit... I cant really describe its like a little blur behind moving things like when someone is running. With the sony its not as bad. I kind of liked the EVF in the sony in such a way as I can see the exposure right away as im changing the white balance and exposure compensation.

Im becoming alot more interested in photography and wondering which do you think would be better to keep and use primarly for photos but also video whenever the skim gets good?

Also noted that sony has a 3yr protection plan from best buy

The T2i is an incredibly capable camera. If you're seeing blur of any sort, it's most likely due to your exposure settings and frame rate. You can churn out professional quality video with a T2i.

And to answer your question of which one, I know nothing of the sony, but the best camera is the one you're comfortable with.

Quick edit. Noted that the focus is off (bangs instead of eyes) and her arm is cut off. I love the 1.8 prime but it's a bitch to focus. This is f2.0., 1/80, and 1000ISO.

typically, lenses (especially lenses that aren't pro glass) are going to be soft wide open. were you using your center focus point?

It's a 1.8 but stopped down to 2.0. It's the SMC-M Pentax 1.8 50mm on my K5 crop sensor camera. According to the reading I've been doing on it, the lens is super soft at 1.8 (like you mention), but sharpens up at f2.0 substantially, and is tack sharp at 5.6. Going back, I would stop down to 4-5. At 2, the depth of field blurs the background enough that combined with the over exposure, almost completely eliminates it. There is background material about 3-4 feet behind her that didn't register. I never got to experiment with a smaller aperture to see if it still worked out in this similar style. Think it would have?

Also, because the lens is 30 years old, it is completely manual focus. The focus register lights still come on in the camera during manual focusing, but I don't use them when shooting at close to wide open because they aren't accurate enough. So it was all up to me. I'm still trying to figure out how to focus this thing accurately. I can get it good enough for snaps, but i would have loved a proper focus point here.

I just happened to have the 50mm on at the time. I want to get comfortable shooting with it, so it's been on my camera more often than not.

    45 degree metered prism? interesting.

one of my friends acquired one of those nikon 6mm fishes with a 220 degree angle of view. thing is lulz, although the camera needs to be in mirror lockup to use it so we can't look through it. the rear element extends into the camera. oh well, the photos are gonna be funny.
