those shots are sick ahatala
Gabe the composition on the guitar shot is great. What ISO are you shooting with a concert like that? Do you try to keep it low or do you not care about grain very much. There doesn't seem to be much in that shot.
"nah that looks normal. the mirror flips up when you expose the film so whats dirty is the lens. Or more likely, thats on the negative. Other people don't handle negatives very carefully. plus the scanner always wants to try and get detail in things that don't have any, hence the super grainy sky, although a 3 hour exposure will also do that. "
Thanks so much for explaining it man. This is why I <3 somb.
Ahat the first shot is sick! The timing of the second one is great, but it looks backfocused a bit. Sean the lighting on the girl with the dresses photo is spot on. What was your set up?
Trevor: this is the shot I was talking about when I was asking about long exposure rigs...
NOT MY PHOTO
The light blur on the ground and ceiling is amazing...
3.2 second exposure!? How is it still so sharp?
I'm so adjective, I verb nouns!
the post processing on that shot has to be tremendous for it to be a 3.2 second exposure.
@SenorBehar My teacher taught us Developer, water,StopBath,Water,Fixer, water,Photo flo, water, hang
thanks for reminding me, its been awhile since I've developed myself.
I'm thinkin some sort of flash had to be used to get the car so sharp, unless the longer exposure was shot and the car was dropped in or something. I'm interested in what sacto thinks cause his post processing is insane on cars
Yeah me too. I talked to him earlier on FB and he said it could have been shot going like 5mph, I think even still, it wouldn't be that sharp. He hadn't seen the picture yet when I talked to him though...

i think what they do is attach the camera to the car via a long pole which extends from the car and has the camera aimed back at the car. all you have to do is move the car slowly and during a long exposure it looks like it's going warp speed. the pole was probably cloned out since it's really easy to clone out a pole.
and yeah all you need to do black and white is developer and fixer. photoflo is nice. i use DI water as stop. Well, only sometimes, i don't think it matters that much. but when I mix developers i certainly use filtered water.
got a roll of 120 shot today. working on my 35 now.
hows my posting?

^^ This is exactly what they did. That shot is also a multi exposure shot meaning they mounted the camera and used the flash in multiple shots then got the car rolling to get the background. That may not make sense as I just got home from a 6hr shoot while being sick thats to my girl.......
But I mean these were the 2 first cars we shot... Can't complainFull shoot tomorrow/Monday as I am booked for another full day tomorrow...

love the polaroid one jesse!
Thanks! I shot with iso 3200 during all the concert, with 1/125 or 1/160 and f/7.1 or f/8. but i could have it done with iso 800, 1/125 and f/4, probably. it's just i don't like the 70-200 f/4 in f/4... it doesn't look that sharp for me. i like it f/5.6 or smaller apertures with this lens
edit: I had never shot high isos before, so i decided to give it a try. but i do care about grain, i think it looks better in b&w, though. in this photo it doesn't look to have a lot of grain, but there was a lot of light also.

Ahhhh I see I see. Is the sharpness lost because of a more shallow DoF or because of the properties of the lens at that f-stop?
I'm so adjective, I verb nouns!
I really like that second shot Gnip.
Just woke up and had the urge to edit a shot from today so I picked a random one. Rest will be released on Monday, now back to catching up on sleep..........

I don't know.. just don't like it at f/4, it doesn't seem as sharp as the other f stops... also, I read once that lenses don't show their best potentials in their maximum apertures. I don't know how true is this though..
and I love the composition on the second photo, rob! and this shot looks so nice, trevor

I think that is true, I've read it on multiple occasions as well.

whats that black car?
and most lenses are typically sharpest at around 8 or so. Apparently as you go farther st gets slightly less sharp, but not as much as if you go bigger. MTF charts show you some numbers about sharpness and contrast but I'm only slightly sure how to read them.
It's a Lamborghini Gallardo. Once again I hate black cars..

i love black cars, especially at night, christmas timey feeling, christmas lights reflecting all up in that paint

I think i'd prefer a really dark charcoal over black on most any car. On top of that, black is such a PITA to keep clean.
Don't bro me if you don't know me.
i love black cars too. that lamborghini is sick

I love black cars to own/drive, just "hate" to shoot them haha. Its hard to actually hate a lamborghini.

it's so annoying to shoot skateboarding when the skater is always wearing all black.
I would imagine, luckily I have not had to deal with that. How do you over come the black clothing?

there's nothing you can really do haha. i always want to bring like red or blue shirt for them to wear or tell them to wear something not black. but I never plan any skate shoots so it just happens. of course when they're not wearing black, it's usually white, which is then over all the time. Especially with flashes. just can't win. why can't they just wear 18% grey?
