    Default 1-Step

You know the 1-Step where you drop the board and get on really fast? Is that really necessary? I keep trying the 1-Step and I just don't go as fast as I would if I throw the board out in front of me and sprint on.

Edit: Also, what is that thing when you're skimming on deep water I see it all the time it kind of looks like the person is bouncing up and down slightly? What does that do?

then you need to practice more , if your not going faster on the 1 step you are doing some thing wrong.

Haha i remember thinking that. You aren't running fast enough though. Once you can get it down running as fast as you can and one stepping, then it is always faster then having to chase.

Yeah dude practice til you don't think about it. When you can do it without thinking about it your free to focus on something else, like speed or timing a wave.

it seems its slower because with the 1-step you are running slower. i used to do the same thing cuz i was scared i was gunna get dinged up if i missed the board (i practiced on a windy day...bad idea)...so run as fast as you would if you had used a mult-step and you should be goin quicker.

that or you are studder stepping becfore you get on the board because your timing isnt right, thus you lose all your speed.

Practice. When you think you're going to jam your foot on your board, drop it anyways and jam your foot on it. Eventually you will learn how to not do it.
Try starting slow, and progressively trying faster and faster runs until the stutter is gone.

I have a question related to this. does back foot first matter that much? its way easier for me to do front foot first.
nfarino117: Do you just use a paint pen on top of the front of your board? Or do you have to take it apart?

I hold the back with my left.

I watched this Paulo Prietto video when I started and he said if you're goofy to whole back with left and front w/ right.

& back first... I think that's how you're supposed to... Step back then swing front onto it.

so your throwing right and getting on goofy with back foot first .

    stop the video at 1:27

just practice going for that , try to master it without speed then slowly add more speed into it .

ogskimmer you have to hold the back of the board with your left hand or else you have to run all the way to the other side of the board before getting on... Don't worry though, it only took me a day to switch the throwing hand.

The key to the one step Imo. As you're dropping the board you're back foot should already be on its way to hop on. Otherwise youll be out of rythm, and make the one step pointless. And also if you're drop isnt really good it will be hard to learn. And it's just trusting you're board and knowing where to put you're weight.

When I drop as my back foot is comming to stand on the board I'm shifting all my weight foward suddenly so that my front foot is more easily planted. (of course while learning youll eat crap REALLY HARD) very worth it though. Took me about a solid week to get it down comfortably...
    ultra vac for now...

it seems like your going half speed , sprint and try to get used doing a one step at a faster speed , then you will definatly feel a difference
