Default hi all im new and i need help

    Hi everyone,

I have only 3 months doing skimboarding and its awesome, i have a zap wedge. I live in Panama the country not panama city FL. So there are a few that practice this sport, my question is now that i have a good stance and i control the board i was thinking to get traction pads for wave riding, now since in panama its dificult to get skimproducts (all taht we do is surfing) it will be ok to get surfboard tractionpads instead the skim ones??

    thanks,

    roge

welcome to the message boards roge.

surf traction pads will work just fine. although most people wouldn't recommend putting them on a zap wedge because it's an entry level board. What size is your wedge? I'm assuming it's a large so you shouldn't need to sand the top of your board, just make sure that you clean all of the wax off your board and wipe away any residue with rubbing alcohol. after that, put on your traction pad and let it sit over to make sure it's stuck good.
    good luck.

As far as I know all pads are made for surfboards. Skimboarder just use the small ones.

    hi,

thanks for your respones, first of all i tried to do the search first, its very dificult to learn something if you dont have any teacher, here in panama im like the first one that is trying to catch some waves, all the skimboards here are made from wood so we are on the amateur lvl here. Actually all that i learned was from youtube, so any guide that you know or some vids that can help me i will apreciate if you can share that with me.

    Thanks,

    Roge

A good thing to do when you join a website is to read posts that are "stickied" at the top of the forum. Look around at other people's posts and most importantly, look around the website itself. If you see a search button try clicking it and trying a few terms.

I know there is no teacher, but shit doesn't have to be spoon fed to you on here. Some of the onus is on you to find the information.

    That being said, welcome!

There's some decent clips and stuff on the main skimonline page, and some stuff in the skimonline skim school: http://www.skimonline.com/skimschool/index.html

Also, looking at the youtube videos is good in order to get an idea of weight transfer when wrapping, and little techniques and stuff. Youtube videos help, but its still hard to learn from them. The best thing to do is note a couple things from the videos, then go out and skim, and skim alot. The only way to really get better at riding waves, and reading waves is to go out alot.

Youtube videos almost always have the best conditions in them, and chances are you aren't gonna have conditions like that all the time, so its best to just get out there and skim as much as you can. You'll get it sooner or later. It is harder when there's no one to learn from like that, but you'll get it.
