    Done!

Drilling holes in a perfectly good car FTW

Pretty simple, there's 2 locating marks for the outers - just a little center punch, 3mm drill, then a 8mm, Dremel'ed off the burs. Put on marking washers for the 2 center holes, fit it, remove, punch/3/8 the centers. Add a little touch up paint around the holes (just to finish them) some rubber washers, tighten it down and GTG.

The front edges are a little thin on paint - going to touch those up (yeah, from the factory), but not noticeable. Looks pretty great and me likey *no* paint hassles (perfect match) and OEM spec.

I've got to get some improved tun-age - likely that Alpine X305 - in fact, it will be an Alpine for sure as I already bought the Modifry harness/DCI adapter (for dash controls and no splice install). Kind of thought the woman was buying that for the BDay, but got the spoiler instead. Totally stoked for a NON-disc based HU (going to use a POD or an 8GB thumb drive).

I went ahead and installed the HD springs - figured they came with it so why not. Goddam, those things are dangerous - I made this tool of out of a 22 and 18mm wrenches duct taped with a sponge for padding.

Speaking of: going to get some ASD's springs on the way and get this this lowered - looks like a 4X4.

So I picked up my bumper plugs - they basically just snap into the two bracket holes left behind by having no front tag (non req'ed in Florida). Anyway, so I push it in, and the bracket falls the f**k into the bumper. So I had to pull the front fascia to retrieve it (partially anyways). Upside: I know how the front fascia comes off, and got the plugs installed. Amazing how much two tiny pieces of plastic clean it up.

I might consider them later - I don't won't to sacrifice ride quality too much (and most use 10-12K springs) and the factory handling is already pretty outstanding. For a few hundred dollars, this will tighten it up just a bit, drop it about 1.5".

Done! Got in on a *crazy* GP for about $45% off (updated the discount: the price includes shipping, wow.). I'll have 'em the end of this week and installed by next weekend.

Yeah, WTF WAS I talking about, ummm....

Oh, hahaha, yeah, the Heavy Duty springs that come with the rear wing - they're meant to compensate for the heavier weight of the trunk lid + wing. For the record: installing them is f**king hazardous.

Yeah, about 1.3-1.5" drop. Should be nice and tucked. Thinking about just sticking with the stock wheels and keeping everything OEM, expect for performance related items (suspension, motor). They're Espelir ASD. I believe the ASD's are variable rate as well (like OEM), which I wanted, so many aftermarket springs are fixed rate which conflicts with the OEM shock valving.

@mega - well springs and shocks operate together as a _system_, but mainly shocks control the compression and the springs keep the tires in contact with the road. The harder/faster they create that contact the better it handles - to a very specific point and on a smoother road. In fact on bad/bumpy roads, the increase compliance of a softer spring works better. These are very close to stock in terms of rate, aren't so short as to cause bottoming out and the lower COG will improve overall handling a bit.

you will not keep the OEM wheels for long. You lie.

For one.....you cant put a wide enough tire on them....and two....as soon as you drop it the little OEM wheels are going to look tucked into the fenders, and you are going to start thinking about how sick a 265 would look back there.

Well, what I meant was that drop springs alone can't really help the handling much, if at all? Well, besides the lower cog. But wouldn't it be true that it would handle much better if you upgraded the shocks to konis as well as new springs? Or would it be just a waste of money??

Koni's would be better and the design on some models are perfect for lower springs, but at the cost of those, I'm about 80% of the way to a full on coilover. These ASDs are disposably cheap for now (and will always have solid "street value").

oo snap. I should look into them. i am riding the nuespeed/stock shock combo and it is annoying. So who makes halfway decent shocks other than koni? I can't really find any because all anyone ever recommends are koni.

edit: I have an espelir jgt500 catback.... Is espelir like a cheap brand? Like a megan type company?

Seems like there's a ton of other options that are better (and around the same price).

Are you talking brand new? Holy hell (this is for Cabo too), I saw Mazda was doing an *extra* $5K off of Miatas. A guy got a fully loaded one for $19K.

    [edit]

Oh yeah, this is from his post: An '08 GT in True Red/Black, w/ Suspension and Premium #2 Packages. Listed for around $27,300, for $19K

Truck is paid off in June...I'm getting new timing/serp belts, plugs/wires, water pump, ect hopefully this weekend and that should cover my maintenance for a while...and then she's paid off in June.

Then I'll be in the market. I was planning on going NB, like a 99 or 2000, but those NC's (2006+) look freakin fun. Same weight, wider stance, +30 hp .

The wider fenders make a big difference - we were parked next a new one the other day, interior was awesome and it looked sort of "beefy".

haha...I don't care that I lose all man hood when I walk down this path.

In other news, when I went home to wash clothes last night. This was in the driveway (Jaguar replacement). Except it was silver.

That's sick cabo. My dad just picked up this last friday. He had a Yamaha 1100 for 15 years, sold it and bought a CBR125R, and then this year upgraded to the Honda ST1300.

I'm going to buy the 125R off of him. I'm just learning how to ride now, and it was a fracking huge jump for me to try the ST1300 from only ever riding a 125R. Picks in a week when I go home again. (scratch that, found one)

Just scheduled service for my truck...timing belt, tensioner, water pump, plugs/wires...at 100K+ I'll feel better about driving so much, but my bank account is about to bomb like the stock market. Can't believe a $20 timing belt takes 6-7 hours to replace, haha, getting raped service per hour.

26,000 isn't really that much, its not little but still not bad, plus the car is in really good shape.
