The assholes that put the tires on and "aligned" it fracked up. I was at work so my mom picked up the car for me and she asked if they did the alignment we paid for and they were like, "o no, we couldn't get it on the machine because it's so low." Then another guy comes around the corner and says, "but so and so didn't know how to put it on right, I'll do it." So they proceeded to put my car of a lift I suppose and align it and after 10 minutes, my mom said, it was "done". O really? They don't even have an alignment machine at that shop. They take it to the shop down the road... I'm pissed. So need less to say, I get into the car. The steering is fracking looser than hell, the tires don't grip, it feels like I'm rolling on balloons, and the car pulls to the right (something it didn't do before) and the steering wheel has to be tilted left to go straight. They also were instructed to fix the squeaking brakes. Well, they turned the rotors, billed us, and they still squeak. What should I as for my money back on? Everything? I'm pretty pissed.

Sounds like a kook ass shop. I would definitely look into getting a proper alignment.

Sounds like theyre a bunch of dumbasses. I'd try and get them to do it right or get your money back. A screaming and yelling customer in their office is bad for business. Also, you can check toe and camber yourself to see how out of spec it is and use that as leverage.

This little how to gives a basic description, that isnt how I would do it, but you get the idea. If you know what its supposed to be, you can compare that with your measurements to prove they did it wrong.

This one also has some other ways to do it.

Goddam, I hate even following up with the cluster frack that mega went through. Get that shit straightened out!

I went to a reputable tire place locally, asked them if they'd lock it up (they kept it overnight) and not air tool my wheels Good job by the shop, fair price - holy shit I've swapped out wheels/tires so many times, I don't think I've purchased a new tire in like 6 or 7 years. These should last me for the remainder of my ownership of this ride since I only put on ~3000/year.

They did recommend an alignment (which I had done to _spec_ recently), but they were basing that on the condition of the tires (uneven wear from the previous owner, driven on by me out of alignment and then lowered OOA which really fracked 'em up - don't do it kids ).

Anyway, the Ventus V12s feel outstanding, they respond pretty immediately, very low road noise (considering the grip), no wet weather use yet (but supposed to kick ass). Great looking tire too (ya know, for a +tire+). I figured after reading that regardless of their slightly cheaper price vs. some more mainstream brands. the folks with M3/M5/Porsche/etc., couldn't be wrong.

i like the rsx selection in here

so i just made a little deal with my brother (or rather, he made it with me and i accepted) to help him out with his car. it's one that was on my list for a project tuner/newer car. i never thought i'd have enough money for that kind of project though, so this is quite the breakthrough! the deal is that if i split all the maintenance (not routine like oil/tires/ect. since it's not mine yet and i'll barely be driving it), i can pick, pay for, and install upgrades on certain parts that i want to upgrade, when they fail. the real deal is that when he's done with the car, when he has money for a new one or whatever, or when this engine is done for good, he's gonna give the car to me! so i get to tune-to-own

p.s. the car is a 2004.5 jetta gli. i love it... wonderful looks and general engineering, pretty damn quick for a 4-door sedan, 6 spd, sunroof, already has some decent rims on it (a part that i would have put on hold probably for forever), 150k miles but runs really nice. my goal is to eventually do an engine swap when this one's done for good, so the miles don't get to me, or the fact that my brother will be driving it all around

woo! so excited! this is such an easy way to get me back into a sporty car, which i've been missing for quite some time now

Even though I've never owned a rotary I'm addicted as well. As much as I like the E30, I would LOVE to see you build a FB or FC. I can't get enough of the 26's. 0-10k RPM in blink of an eye...priceless.

    So long story short:

Took it back. He aligned it 3 times, still pulls to the right. He said the caster is out and there is no way to adjust it. From what I have gathered, with my car, caster changes when camber is adjusted, there is no easy way to adjust caster like there is toe and camber, and if the caster is out of line, something must be bent or broken.

    Thoughts on caster alignment?

edit: I understand caster, so I think, and it's pulling to the right because the right has more negative caster than the right.... (or less positive)

I wish I had the funding to build a 26 but more than likely I'd get a 12a and do full exhaust, a carb and a streetport once I popped the motor and have 145-160rwhp in a 2300lb car or if I was lucky, I'd find a nice gsl-se, do full exhaust and switch back from FI to a weber or something and make around 160rwhp and then streeport it once it blew up and make close to 200. It wouldnt be fast in straight line but it'd be quick and fun for squirting around in traffic and they weigh so little that they handle like theyre on rails. Straight line speed comparable to our rx8, better handling and way more cool factor and on top of that, its 30 years old.

Cabo, yes, a P-Car. I like the S, but I think to be satisfied I'll need to put too much aftermarket into it and I'm just sort of done with that. I'd like a little more refinement, and whatnot, not to say that I dislike my S, I think it's a stellar vehicle, but I might be in a position to try something a little more upmarket. I'd definitely stay with a convertible so either a late[r] model 987 Boxster or possible a 997 Cab (like a C2).

Yeah, honestly the Boxster and Cayman are the superior platforms (even if they've been slightly power limited behind the 911). I mean, when Porsche built their supercar (Carrera GT) you see what engine configuration they used (MR).

It's just the 911 still feels like it's the classic setup, and it definitely follows the mantra of "a bad design engineered to perfection"

I think it's 95% likely I'd go with a Boxster and save the 911 platform for a future purchase (I still would like to own a TT or a GT3) definitely a 987 model, definitely an S, and at a minimum the revised (2007+ with the 3.4L).

This is pretty long term, no rush, happy with the S2K right now, but not spending any extra money on it now it's got nice new rubber. I need to dial in the audio, or just pulled it and sell though.

I've ordered a few times from Tire Rack and just recently Discount Tire Online and all times the service and pricing were outstanding. Only tires though.

I think the Cayman looks a lot better than the 911, the proportions are way more, normal.

Tirerack is safe to order from, my family has done it at least 5 times with no issues.

Funny enough a guy I chat with a bit on the S2K forum (had an '08), has been talking about a Cayman for several months. Well, he finally pulled the trigger on a new '11 Cayman S, PDK, Sport Chrono, 19" wheels, etc. Sweet ride. I caught up with him on a Porsche board and have talked about this a bit and his perspective of the S vs. the 987 has been almost the exact as mine.

Regarding the 911, this guy sounds like he could have gotten into a 997 S model, test drove one, had a killer deal on a new "leftover" 2010, but he said he likes the looks of the 98x cars much better and the handling and driving experience in the Cayman is +way+ better than the 911 he considered.
