all you have to know is... murdered out daily driver. toy #7
Why would you chip an F150?

you have to so that you can run a cold air intake. if not the engine runs lean as frack. and its not just like an xlt its the 5.l4 street version of the 04-08s.

I would think the mild change required for an aftermarket intake would be handled by the ECU - most modern implementations "learn" the new parameters and account for them. On most cars you can disconnect the battery for about 15 minutes to discharge and then just drive it.
FYI, I know it seems logical that CAI = more air (via volume and density) = lean, but I've seen several cars that because the airflow physics changed so much across the MAF, it actually over compensated the fuel trims and the cars ran _rich_!
i want to see pics of this truck.

No you don't. Propbably a gayyy fx2 model, black, with played out moto metal black rims, mud tires, but waxed and shiny
With an i/e/chip that thing will be a rocket!!!!!!!!

I just don't see these modifications being worth the cash...plus street trucks don't make any sense. I have never understood the desire to have a fast truck, that's what cars are for.

I generally agree until my brother took me for a ride in his 510hp/955 ft./lb Duramax. Hooooly shit. I'm used to really fast cars but something that large should not go that fast. It's a weird sensation. The only thing I can compare it to as far as weight/acceleration is.......a jumbo jet. lol.
Pretty frackin' fun though. He can cruise at 40mph and stomp on it and smoke the tires.

I have become a HUGE fan of turbo diesels since.

a buddies truck had 1200 lbs torque in his 06 and decided a truck pull would be a good idea. well after he dragged this f350 up and down the street the entire drivetrain was falling apart. truck was totalled and they only paid for half hahahaha
but hell yeah they are fast ass trucks with just a tune intake exhaust. i have similar truck and taking turns like racecar is a no-no
Yeah...his came with an Allison tranny but he still upgraded the whole thing just in case.

that allison trans is whats inside 18wheeler Semi's hahaha i love the 03+ duramaxes. i have a 97 diesel and a new gasser. i should put them together and make a complete monster
I hate people who love big fast chipped out truck. bro. fracking idiots are all around here.
just to answer some of the gay q's thrown my way. The ECU on the f150s is known to run lean when putting a intake in so a chip is suggested.(yes it was possible dt to have the ecu adapt but why not for an extra hundred have i tuned right and done easily) I didn't do it just for the gain either. I did it for the pluses even if they are small.(ie better mpg, hp, and better for engine.) The exhaust was just so you could actually here my truck the stock exhaust was silent you could hardly hear it. And so what i have a truck that's not 4X4 i don't need 4x4(more problems, doesn't ride as well, and more costly to fix if something breaks) but i need the bed and i need it for small towing applications. plus I'm a big guy so most cars don't suit me and i don't like the look of hatches/wagons.

Yeah, diesels are def cool. I know...it sounds funny huh? "had to upgrade that piece of shit Allison" Those things are so tough. When he first got it, he started stripping all the off badges but I made him keep the Allison badge on. I wish there were some parts on some of the turbo diesels I could make. Noone really wants carbon or composite parts for 'em

Yeah, if the tune is only $100, it's probably a little better (cost vs. results).
I did my own tune on my Z and even with my limited knowledge a little custom tweak made a huge difference.
I agree with you DT about just resetting the ecu. Generally all you need with i/e on a newer vehicle. $100 isn't too bad though if they actually went into the fuel map and adjusted it where it was lean or a little rich.
I love this thread 'cause there are people that actually know wtf they're talking about.
