Drove it in the rain for the first time last night, easily the most fun i've ever had in a car. Went over to my buddy's house, there are 4 traffic circles and 3 easily driftable corners on the way there and I was sideways through all of them. So neutral I cant even comprehend. You can come into a corner wayyyyyy too fast and it just mildly understeers until you slow down enough and then you can give the go pedal a little stab and be as sideways as you like for as long as you want. You just point the front tires where you wanna go and apply the appropriate amount of throttle, simple as that. Seriously in love with this little thing.

"Are you crazy?!?!" Yells the soccer mom casually walking in the middle of my lane with three of her friends *immediately following her over-dramatic jump towards the grass while pushing her friends*. Well, yeah, I was rounding a few twisty, fun corners at over double their posted speed limit of 15mph, but first off: I had plenty of time to slow down and go around even without the dramatics and second: Why the frack are you strolling down the middle of street? Makes me wonder what people think of my driving on a daily basis. All these zombie SUV drivers just put around while I effortlessly push close to triple posted corner limits, barely making the tires talk back .

LAX, that sounds fun as hell! If there's one thing that sucks about making my car faster and faster at autox it's that it gets harder to have fun with it on the street. 1.5" wider wheels, wider and grippier rubber, suspension...all work towards being fast just below the limits, but make catching it once you pass the limits harder. Sliding on my 195/50 all seasons was cake and easy to correct. Sliding on 205/50 star specs is MUCH more difficult as when they get their grip back they get it back fast, makes it kinda snappy. The stock wheel/tire combo is 14x5.5 w/ 185/60/...can't imagine how that would feel compared to my current 15x7.5 w/ 205/50, haha.

Great night out on the mountains last night. One of the locals invited me out and said I could probably hang on some full-pace night runs. I definitely got showed the ropes O__O
Attendees included a 400hp S4, s2000CR, and an R1. The R1 was the only guy I could out-pace in general, but him and everyone else just entered another fracking dimension on the high-speed stuff. I took a ride in both cars to try to learn something and everything was super tidy, but both cars just felt like they had double the grip mine does. Time to dial in my suspension and get some real tires I guess.

The sport bike was the slowest? Or is an R1 something else?

140-200 treadwear tires are in a different league compared to everything else. Combine that with an aggressive precision alignment and you'll be cruising. At some point though, you can't expect to keep up...those S2000CR's are wicked when setup properly. As long as it's mostly turning I feel like you should keep up with an S4. I've seen a brand new one and sticky rubber absolutely fly around at an autox before, but it still got smoked by a Cobalt SS. Of course, anything resembling a straight that 400hp is goooone.

kind of an old pic as I have lowered the SS and have a different set of wheels on the car now but this is one of the only pics right now that I have of both cars together...

Yeah, I feel like the s2000 could definitely out-pace the s4 if he pushed it on any twisty section or through really high speed chicanes. While riding in the s2000 you could tell that it just didn't have to make as much of a fuss to hold an insane pace because its so light. The s4's suspension was DIALED though... plus all custom body panels to clear super wide wheels and tires. The grip that thing had was unbelievable. It would be safe to say that the s4 was able to hold more G's in sweepers. It was so balanced that he could make the rear step out just by increasing the steering angle mid corner (perfect for decreasing radius turns). Both really impressive vehicles and drivers.
Either way, they were both using way too many cheat codes for me to hang with!

Here's some vid of a little DH with the R1 and then both of us getting smoked by the other two cars on the climb.

    S4 sounds like a beast!

I definitely got my car dialed in now. Understeer is totally gone making autox super fun today, plus I took the top overall indexed time, w00t. Saturday I put my body weight in weights in the diver seat then went to work on getting the ride height even side to side and added a little height to the rear for more rake (over steer), then set my sway to have no preload. Felt so neutral at autox, just point and shoot. From apex on I can just steer off the throttle and balance the car...love it!

Also knocked around 6 tenths off my time at the end of the day with heel toe downshifts into first in a slow section, difference between 1st and 4th. Nailing rev match downshifts, frack yeeee.

Finally got my 3" exhaust done up! The cat outlet is now a healthy 70mm that bumps up to 76mm just before the flange for the catback. The catback is of course a massive 76mm all the way. Everything is straight through. DAT SOUND.

I need to quit being lazy and get a flange welded onto my header so I can have 2.25 all the way through, plus a little more power up top. Still won't sound like that god damn VTAK though, mmmm. Also need new motor mounts. I thought something was wrong with my motor as it was moving oddly at idle and has a high frequency vibration at any other RPM...then it start clunking over bumps. Apparently autocrossing and spirited driving break down whats left of old parts . Oh well, good excuse to get Mazdaspeed mounts which are 30% stiffer.

Seriously so happy about this spot! There's been rumors that a MP4-12C was lurking in my city, never though he lived in my neighborhood.

what do you guys think? http://www.i-club.com/forums/norcal-...grades-240625/
chances of me getting it under 9500?
how will the lowering affect the ride in the snow?
any mods on there that would have a huge negative impact on engine/car life?
would it even passs smog in ca?

My friend has the exact same car (give/take a few mods) with about 90k miles and has had no problems with it. Nothing done to that car would naturally harm the motor but if he drove the shit out of it then it would be a different story, of course. I have heard the 02/03 transmissions are a little iffy but that was just reading around on forums and stuff (no personal experience). As far as the height with snow, it really would not affect anything unless you are planning on taking it in snow that it deeper than the ride height ... sounds dumb but the ride height doesn't affect the functioning of the awd. Odds are most areas would run plows all night any you would be hard pressed to drive on main roads with more than 6".

Im guessing you won't get it for under 9500 though ... but you never know

only thing I would be concerned with is that he has a front mount intercooler. Meaning it was at some point definitely running more boost. I would try to find a stock one.

I'm ready to start tackling this. Just hope I can make it to Silverstone, if so I feel pretty damn good about my driving, which I can keep working on via autox and maybe a trip to New Orleans Motorsport Park for some karting. Getting frackin stoked to give this a run.

It says nothing about having a clean title (not salvaged) so that could have a lot to do with the price
