With that same logic you have disrespect for people that drink and even with weakness I can go as far as say you have disrespect for people that worship a religion.

    Seems flawed, the logic.

I hate smoking purely for the smoke. I forgot how good it was in FL when you could not just smoke in businesses. In Virginia the shit is outrageous.

No. People who drink don't get other people drunk. People who are religious may try to encourage their religion, but shove it down their lungs so to speak. I'd say you are making an extreme overstatement and over analyzing what I'm saying by going as far to say I'd disrespect people with religious beliefs. I think it's a little harder to argue that religion is less healthy than smoking is. It's pathetic that people who are stressed/down in the dumps have to turn to something thats so blatantly bad for you. What the hell is worse for someone than a cigarette. It makes no sense!

yeh our campus created a law last semester that you couldnt smoke within 50 feet or any building. Sadly, with the thousands of students, half who dont even know of the law, there are people smoking while walking to class right near buildings. I dont mind as long as someone doesnt blow it right into my face. Or burn my like one fracker did. Draws, im walking past, puts his hand down and burns my arm.

Haha. I was thinking to directly I'd suppose. Very good catch though come to think of it. I was thinking in terms of the second-hand smoke direct contact. Walking past someone on the street doesn't get you drunk. Walking past a smoker and your probably going to inhale some of that smoke, unfortunately. I know this all sounds extremely nit-witty, I'm just being literal. Ironically I go to Providence College, infamous for it's drinking scene/fake-ID bars and things of that sort. Well I am a casual drinker, I'd rather not drop $100+ on a fake. My roommates already been slammed for his and got six weeks of community service on weekends.

Cigarettes are awful for your body. It is pretty stupid for anyone to smoke them.

They smell so good, but smoking them is so harsh. I don't really like smoking cigs either though, only when I'm drunk. It just gives me a headache. I've smoked off and on for a year or two now, never get addicted. I can smoke 5-6 a day everyday for a week and then just drop it for months. I don't really smoke them at all now though. Teh gurly don't like it.

I hate smoking. I think I have smoked 1/2 a cigarette my whole life. I won't date anyone that smokes, and I hate hanging out with people who do.

This is not directed at anyone, or any response in particular...

Just because a person smokes does NOT mean they are going to get cancer! Although, it does increase the likelyhood.

Millions of people smoke their whole lives and never gt cancer, some never smoke and do.

As skimmers, we all run an increased chance of getting cancer from skimming bareback in the sun.
What are we all going to do... quit skimming because we might get cancer? ... no.

We all might get hit by a bus the next time we walk across a street too.

We put sunscreen on or wear a shirt to decrease the likelyhood of cancer. Just as it is advisable not to smoke. There really isn't any rationalizing around the fact that smoking categorically bad for you and those around you.

Also smoking leads to heart attacks and hypertension.

If you seriously just compared the known risk involved with smoking cigarettes to the random risk involved with crossing the street.......then I have given you too much credit on this MB and I now think you are a complete idiot.

I think you missed the point...

I do agree, and say so in my post, that smoking increases the risk of cancer.

My point is/was, that not every smoker will die from cancer, or be disfigured by it.

I am very aware that smoking is not a random risk, it is one that is taken by the user of their own free will.

It's not free will when the cigarette companies don't or didn't explicitly tell you the dangers or smoking. It's not free will when you are addicted.

Statistically, you won't be able to keep it under control, and you'll probably die a slow painful death.

Anyone with a brain would be able to tell when they choked after their first inhale, that smoking is probably bad.
And smoking that first cigarette is always free will.

It's not free will if information is held from you. You can't sell someone a machine that will kill them instantly when they use it without warning them. However, you can sell cigarettes to people without telling them that it will pretty much kill them.

Or wait is it free will? Does free will require knowledge to make an educated choice? Or does free will exist with or without knowledge? Nar or Bart, comments?
