    Default Engine Issues

Ok this is for you car people. My jeep is a 2003 Liberty. Recently the engine has started clacking and rattling really bad. Also the fluid for my radiator has been going down really fast causing my heater to not work properly. My dad thinks my head gasket is going out because water was running out my tail pipe and from the under carriage of my jeep(not from the a/c either).

Any ideas on if that is the problem or not? Or how much it will cost for a rebuilt engine or new head gasket? Thanks!

Sounds like you should go buy a new engine.

Is there white smoke coming from the exhaust? If you're losing coolant it's likely a headgasket. Has it been overheating? Serious misfires?

If you're leaking coolant into the oil passages it can also muddy up the oil (it'll be all frothy, best way to describe it). If you've mixed oil and coolent and run it/turned it over, you could cause some serious cylinder damage (i.e., need a full on rebuild).

It could be the water pump too - that'd be a reasonably cheap fix.

I'd say if it's a HG and you have to pay someone to do it - $1000-$1500 depending on exact labor rates and any machine work that it might need (like resurfacing the heads).

If it's a motor - I have no idea, but I would figure a late model pull and rebuild would set you back $3500-$4000.

Shutup, DT. It should have ended with my V-Dubya pun. That's the solution.

A buddy of mine is doing a 447CI build that he might bail on for a smaller CI with twin turbos. ~$7500 for the short block, do some ETP 235cc heads, big cam, etc., probably $12-13K installed, but then you'd have a nice 650HP setup

No smoke coming from the exhaust. The engine has not been over heating either. No misfires but my jeep sometimes will "shake" when its sitting still at a stop light or just idling. Feels like it hesitates a little when I step on the gas too sometimes.

VW ads are so amazing. It's incredible how many different campaigns they've had that are all good. Even the recent shit-your-pants-collision stuff!

sounds like the muffler bearing to me. Either that or the rotary girder. When was the last time you replaced the turn signal reservoir fluid? We can get to the bottom of this...
