Question Camera Help (Pro Photo guys?)

I've been saving up a lot of money from the last 6 months, and with the help of my mom and pops, I plan on buying a nikon.
I've been looking at the D-40. But honestly I have no idea what I'm looking at.
My price range is anywhere from $400-$650.
I'd like a nice lens if it's possible to fit into that price range.
I plan on shooting skim pics, and alot of scenery stuff.

I would appreciate as much info as you guys could help me with?

    Thanks

get a used 20D for about $500. Then get a canon 70-200 f/4. Then you shoot awesome skim photos.

They're legit, and prices are reasonable. Read through the reviews, and you check out this thread...http://209.200.225.217/forum/showthr...ht=dslr+advice

Kevin, Canon is the most common recommendation because until recently they controlled the sports photography market and had the best setup for this type of work. Today there's virtually no difference and whatever you choose will serve you well. One thing to remember though- While Nikon bodies are cheaper their pro-quality glass (lenses) is much more expensive. If this is something you're serious about and see yourself building up a system over the years I'd go with Canon.

Canons are much better but way more expensive. Nikon is the way to go. I learned on a D50 and loved it. You're still gonna wanna take some sort of class unless you wanna be a kook and shoot auto.
