I was thinking about this topic again and thought I'd ask the board again (new members now), What have you done to help your sport?

like what most of everyone said i..........
make skim vids on you tube.
answer anyone questions about skimming and teach them how it is different the the woody on the sand.
buy videos, magazines, boards, and all the accessories.
inform the local tourist that it is not surfing
pick up trash on the beach
etc.
i let skimboarding frack me in the ass enough times to ruin my life... is that enough?

if a woman is crushed by a tree in the forest...what was the forest doing in the kitchen?
I held a contest... thaaat kinda failed. I got a few dudes into skimboarding and what not... I compete in contests even though I know I'm going to lose in the first or second round because I suck. Knowingly putting money into the sport like that is true dedication i believe.
edit: you know what sucks. when you search skimboarding wedge on google you get results of the zap wedge skimboard. wish that could change.

the regular I guess, teaching anyone who's remotely curious whats up/how to skim, lending boards, being respectful to beach and the people/animals I share it with
got a couple of dogs so psyched on it they jumped straight on my board. they didnt stick with it though.
i plan on starting a dogs-only skim camp and am looking for experienced instructors.
Edit: this is not meant to reflect negatively on those who actually start free skim camps. those people help the sport a lot more than I
were you tripping when you saw a dog skim?
na dude, when im skimming on not too slopey days theyll just run up behind me and snake the board from me sometimes... it was so funny the first time it happened, but it happens so often it doesnt even surprise me anymore

thats so sick...i wish dogs on cape cod would do that shit
itd be sick if I could get em sliding but i feel like theyd bug out I've seen many a dog that was curious enough to try it tho...there's one great dane in particular thatd be badass if he could actually skim cus he runs so fast lol
photos, buying stuff from skim companies, showing the occasional tourist/anyone else it's not just sandsliding
I taught a little kid how to skim. He bought a cheapy bored and was attempting to skim without wax.
Oh Dude No Way, Waves!
Set up OXS skimboards in NZ. OXS is the first avaliable brand of flatland board here that doesn't fall apart or snap! Running events, obviously getting people into it, making apparel, try to push it as much as possible here and well skim ALOT!
I put on a local contest
got some friends into it, make videos, gave a powerpoint presentation about it in class, bought boards etc.
i think its kind of silly to boast about it....
but SkimBrasil.com was only possible thanks to:

and then by taking ZonaSkim under our arm:

i think people sometimes forget that the brazilian skimboarding scene wouldnt be as globalized as it is today without us...
But SkimBrasil will never forget Nacao Skim for their work in the earliest of the brazilian skimboarding days.
It was because of them that Andre and Myself got serious and said: Lets show everyone what brazil is all about!

I've gotten two of my friends here to buy skimboards, and I lend my other ones out whenever I'm at the beach to get more people involved. One day when the Intramural Fields flooded we all skimboarded it and had a crowd towards the end. A few people even came out and tried it which is awesome. I'm working on starting a skim club down here, but it's not going too well with the committee on student organizations, i need some help with that. Other than that the obvious of keep buying products and entering contests.
So I really liked this thread and it's crazy the progress people have made even in the past 2 years. So now here's a new question: What do we NEED to do to make this sport grow in the best way possible over the next two/three years?

oh and good work , well done on sharing our amazing sport, Keep it up.
Actually, well done to everybody. SHare the passion...
well, for starters, we all definitely need to become more contributing members to the somb society... like, if you think of something really cool, or have a sick session, come tell everyone about it! that's definitely what we NEED to do to help the sport grow in my opinion.

I don't care if it grows--I liked it better when it was smaller--yeah I'm weird.
To me it has never been about the sport but about individual people. I'm about helping people not a sport.
Mike Cole
tell your friends when its good to skim dont keep it hush hush.
