    Default HDR is cool.

I woke up this morning to a sunrise. Of course I grabbed the camera and headed out the door. I have always wanted to try HDR, and what has more dynamic range than sunrise/sunset scenes. I over and underexposed by 3 stops, respectively. I tried CS3's HDR conversion and it was really, really ugly. I found my trail of Photomatix and did it - Wow. I havn't even played around with it yet, this is how it came out of the program.

Excuse the watermarks, not my doing. They have definetly sold me, though, and I will download the full version very soon.

This is really my first go at this, so critique is apreciated. Just thought I'd share. Thanks for looking!

EDIT: Image straightened, corrected for pincushion correction, and sharpened.

Horizon's crooked, but other than that it looks pretty cool. Not like I know much about photography, but I think it looks good.

Yeah I realize that now. I didn't even do any post production to it at all. I could probably clone out the watermarks pretty easily. If I can be bothered to do so.

But yeah, ill go and do some stuff to it and then edit the post.

Maybe concentrate more on the sunrise next time. The rocks are a nice touch but they take up too much of the picture.

its a great trial run. i saw the thread zbr posted about HDR awhile ago and was wowed by those picture galleries.

i think after my recent purchase of a dslr, i'm going to fool around with HDR when i get a good opportunity for the right picture.

Definetly. Any sunrise and sunset is garenteed to have a ton of dynamic range.

Ah ha so you tried photomatix. You can do a lot of creative stuff with it. Great shot by the way, the composition and colors are really good.

not straight. the angle of the horizon is slightly off from being parallel to the top edge of the picture

To post the "original" would require like 6 or 7 pictures. Which do you want?

You used a tripod right, and just took under exposed and over exposed shots?

Content aside, the visual effect is really amazing. I bookmarked all those HDR references someone posted, just need to take the time to read 'em.

Yeah, I did that too when I tried it for the very first time. I couldn't figure out why it looked like shit when there wasn't enough dynamic range in the original shot.
