Default UF Skim Club/ College skim clubs in general

so i'm working on writing up the constitution for the University of Florida skim club i'm going to be starting, and I decided I would turn to the MBs for some ideas.

for club events, i was thinking of having two main type of things: beach outings and movie nights. the beach outings would obviously be when the club members all pile into one (or maybe 10) cars and make the pilgrimage to the east coast for some beach time. for the movie nights, I was just thinking we would set up a projector on a big screen and show a skim movie or two, depending on availability, and then possible talk about any "official" club business there might be.

any other suggestions or ideas for events? anyone have a skim club at there school and do things differently?

    thanks guys

you guys should probably drive in a couple cars.......because if the car crashed then all the members would die at once...and that would be the end of the club.

You should include Beach Clean-ups. That'd be cool and might get more people interested.

I am not sure how far the beach is, but if you guys cant get there too often, try having some inland setups for fun. YOu could have bbq's every once in while. You guys could watch bearded or other skim movies.

i think this is the second time trying to write this, but

the beach is like 1.5 to 2 hours away, so inland stuff probably is a no go. actually, at low tide it might be a possiblity. thanks for the idea...

bbq's sound good. possibly like picnic lunches on the beach kinda thing...

    anymore ideas?

I'm sure there is a surf club, you might want to contact them. Crossover events or parties might not be a bad idea. Plus, the UF surfclub probably has a lot of contacts and sponsorships with retail things that might be interested in helping you.

You should think about having outings where you help people get intoduced to the sport. We did this with snowboarding at my school and it brought alot of people to the meetings and events. Sometimes schools will even help fund your equipment for club memebers to use and borrow.

Also gear swaps are always fun. Surf/Skim swap might be a good fundraser for your club.

    Good luck with running it.

Students or area people take there used gear to you on a specific day and it is sold at the swap. The club gets 10% or 20% of the sale price. We did it a bunch at my school and it worked out great.

i'll be moving to Orlando in a couple of months to finish up at UCF and i had thought the same thing. if they didn't already have a skim club out there, what it takes to start one. and how many people go to UCF and do ACTUALLY skim.

when he says inland, i think he means actually inland. a local lake or river that has shoreline for potential. a lot less people flatland + dont want to ruin their boards tho...

Jesse i dont have a board...Exile is stillll not here...i dont even know if i have the money for it now that im pledging...

beach clean-ups, bbq, smalll parties, beach trips are all good ideas. And i know the surf club is pretty large. some duel surf/skim trips would be wicked.

I think you should go to some of the retirement/old folks homes (I hear there are quite a few of them in Florida) and
teach them how to square dance and do Bingo with them.

well as another event, your club could possibly coordinate a skim competition

You could have some board art comps, and the winner could win some pads or somthing. Or just have it for fun.
