I live in Tampa and it takes me about an hour to drive down to Venice where I skim. If your not willing to make the drive there check out other beaches around you. Check out Indian rocks, sand key and treasure island. I've skimmed all those places which are fairly close to you and had fun sessions. I would say your best bet would be to get familiar with alot of the beaches near you.

From my experiance the break at clearwater is horrible, not to mention the lifeguards...and the fact that it's a tourist beach. As for indian rocks your much better off. Although its recently been dredged if your around 27th ave the break is pretty nice some days. Also sand pebble is a great skimming beach.

Damn, how does it take you 1 1/2 hrs to T.I. ?
    You must live in Valrico.

veniceskim4, how often do you make it down there from Tampa and how do you compare it to St. Pete or T.I.?

I've been meaning to check it out but haven't got the chance to.

I make it down to venice about every week during summer because my family bought a little house off of manasota for next to nothing a couple years ago. I defiantely prefer Venice over St.Pete and TI. There's alot of good beaches to skim in Venice and I've been able to skim them enough to know what beach is going to be best from the conditions so I can get a little something everytime I head down. If you want to know more just PM me.

Pass some info my way way on venice im goann head up there sometime this week i want to knwo some "secret spots!"

And to the clearwater beach deal, iv been goign eveyrday for last 2 1/2 weeks . Really nice for skimming the sand, and somedays the breaks as much as you ppl dont belive me

Iv only been to st.pete beach once and i didnt find it that great from what ppl say.... I go to the beach for Girls aswell and seeing 70 year old women in bakini's just ruins it for me... THen again i can always chill with there grand daughters like i did at clearwater last week.

Weren't you wanting to buy a zap wedge or something. You could prove me wrong but i've never seen anyone charge a head high shore break on a zap wedge. As for the break at clearwater....it breaks miles out, not a skimming beach.

yup i want a zap! notice the name . and i dont have a zap i own a meyer board but i use my firends boards cuz i well. my meyer looks like i shop it with a shot gun! never buy those they trash! and it was breaking like i said 15/20 feet away from shore which is pretty easy to get out there considering around 5/10 of those feet are around 5inch water... Also the waves were caused by the "TROPical Storm" so its quite possible

    Define "charge"

Oh and i skimmed clearwater beach today. I had to pay $3.00 to park there, i was there about 2 hours. The "skim" was ankle biters that broke before a sandbar waaaaay out. To top it off the lifeguards there are...annoying and for every local person there is 150 tourists.
