    Default Board sizes

why do the sizes of skimboards differ so much from company to company?
heres the dimensions of a large skimboard from different companies:

    L exile: 52.50" x 20.60"

    L grape: 55.25" x 21"

    L vic(poly): 55.25" x 21"

    L square: 52" x 20 7/8"

    L slottie: 54" x 20.25"

    L zap: 54.50" x 20.50"

Look at small/medium Slots compared to other companies. A medium Slot is smaller than a Small Exile (I think).

Different shapers have different styles. Each company has their own shape to their boards, which differentiates them from the others. If all the boards were exactly the same, there wouldn't be much need for so many board companies.

but the vics and grapes are the same size. which is obvious since paul wade was a vic shaper. but you always hear about vics being boats, and then you hear that grapes turn on a dime, there very light...etc. so whats the difference?

When i talked to paul he said that he spent more time on the rails than vic or other companies for that matter, that is why his boards are 30 dollars more than a board of the same material from like exile.

in the same sense, not nearly as many people have grapes compared to vics. so the bunch of people just refer to the boards as bigger.

they are the same sizes like said above

but if I were to get a small grape, and it's the same size as an xl exile, will they both have the same amount of float? (of course both would be the same material/resin)

A 5/8 exile or a 3/4 exile? Grapes are all 3/4 and if it was the same exact dimensions and thickness it should have the same float.

a 3/4 exile. and thats what i thought, but why are exile and square boards so much shorter than grapes and vics. because that makes a big difference in float, but i've heard that grapes turn faster than exiles. most likely because of the sharper rails on them. so I would think that a grape has alot of advantages on an exile right? because it has more float, light and sharper rails.

not really, $30 isn't that much more when your already paying hundreds anyway.

this is what paul wrote back to me in an e-mail a week ago:

Thank you for your interest in my skimboards. E-glass/epoxy are $390,
S-glass/epoxy are $430, and Carbon/epoxy are $490. Size does not change the
    price.

    Thank you,

    Paul Wade

and you also have to remember that if it has more float, and sharper rails, then isn't it worth the extra $$$.

    No.

    a) They are not the same size
    b) they do not have the same shape
    c) they do not have the same float
