Cameras of actual breaks (even I have to laugh as I write the word "Breaks" in conjunction to the gulf).... I hate driving from Tampa across the bridge to find out that its frackin horrible...

My idea was to have a website where anyone could go on and upload there pic and videos right to the server and automatically have there pics uploaded to an album, no email required. Almost like a youtube but for skim, skate, or surf, on the gulf coast, or gulf coasters who went to cali and brought back video, or pics ect.. We also want to create a line of cloths that is made for skim, shirts that any person could see and say, oh he or she skims.

seriously.. i search for florida skim on myspace.. and 90% of the videos were kids throughing their board 100ft, chasing after it, and then riding 2ft in the sand.. it was pretty hilarious though

i guess i don't follow how it wouldn't compete with skimonline, i.e. pull visitors away from an already established resource.

i'm not saying it's a bad idea, but just wondering if there's really a need for it. it seems you could just utilize skimonline in the same way.

What ever happened to skim florida? I thought that was mostly gulf skimmers.

your idea is very similar to what is already Gulfster.com

skimvids.com seems more like a gulf website than anything else as well, and you can upload pics and videos and whatnot. It even has a forum

also do like a who's who kinda like a spotlite but he or she doesnt have to be pro or anything just somebody thats always at all the good breaks and is a part of the gulf skim scene...kinda just gets everybody involved and you get to know gulf skimmers a little better..just a idea

shifty and i are making it. the part im really lookin forward to is apparel.
we aren't trying to steal any viewers from other sites, i.e. skimonline, gulfster, whatever.
we just want to have a nice little local-based skim only site, somehwat like skimvids.

Years ago I tried to get a Gulf Coast Skim Association started. The idea was to bring skimmers from the area together and in the process work on being united so that we could have somewhat of a voice to be heard by city governments in the area.

Here were the problems though--

As a general rule you can not count on most skimmers to come through with what they say.

Skimmers in the Pinellas County area are way to much into certain clicks with their buddies at certain breaks.

Skimmers become non-skimmers at an alarming rate.

Surf shop owners in the area are way too much into the rivals thing.


But if you want to do a site, just do it and have fun with it. And Derek, come on with the "take users away from skimonline" thing! This is about a local gulf site.

yeah we just kinda wanted to make something to bring the relatively big gulf skim population together in a way, we thought it would be cool to make gulfskim clothes so people can rep gulfskim wherever they go. it was just an idea we had for about a year now and we're finally starting to make it come together.
shifty and i both have working sites up, we're just trying to make them into one to make it super sick.
