There are many beaches on the gulf coast, and over 15 kids that skim that area on these MBs. Many spots which you can find yourself by looking on surfline or other tide places. They arent really "good" spots, because the gulf is usually flat or small, but itll beat your lake across the street.

i would give you the usual list of places but everytime that happens someone in the thread bitches about "thats the reason kooks are taking over the skim spots"

yeh that works or someone will come in here and say some decent places.

The gulf doesnt get huge. If its good at good spots it can get waist to chest, but thats more rare. If there isnt a swell youll prob be seeing ankle to knee to thight depending on the wind and tide. You can do small wraps on them but nothing to brag about.

Yeah good luck with a solid wrap our waves. Yeah it can be done but nothing to write home. Is this your first time wave riding? You usually flatland right?

Its all going to be hit or miss depending if there is a storm brewing or not... If this is your first time wave riding, just a word of advice, don't stand directly in front of anyone else out there right next to the water and as a result, you unknowingly snake all the locals. Its just comon courtesy and respect...

Yeah just stay out of the way of the locals and dont hit any tourists with your board. Good luck hopefully there will be waves when you come down.

Yeah, I forgot about the tourists thing. Thats a huge point. Tourists come here on vacation and typically aren't in complete control of their board, they then hit a toursit and a few days later go home. The locals though then have to deal with the consequences of your actions long after the culprit has gone home, i.e. beach closings, etc...

All and all, for the most part, the majority of the skimers are pretty chill, but just be aware of your surrounding, use comon sense, and show respect and you'll have a fun time...

ok which place has the biggest waves.. heres a couple reviews straight from skim spot

    5. Sand Pebble Beach, Treasure Island; 28.7 mi (about 43 mins)

This it THE most consistent, largest sets of waves anywhere in the central gulf coast. It is always 3-5 feet, if not worse. I consider myself a pretty damn good skimboarder, and can ride a wave like a little bitch with unusual consistency, but these waves made me feel like a five year old with a woody. If you are here you WILL get thrown on your face with some force, as my dear friend Ian found out for me. Anyone heading here or anywhere in the area, contact me and we'll cut up some waves.
Well depending on where you are we are obviously going to have different instructions, so I'll give it basic. If your anywhere in the area, look for Indian Rocks Beach, Redington Beach, or Clearwater Beach, which shouldn't be too hard... Look for an amazingly large and incredibly stupid tourist trap known as John's Pass. Just south of that about 2 miles you will find the beach there is like no other. You may need to look up and down the beach a little to find your 'sweet spot', but it didn't take me too long. If you are looking for a good skim/surf shop there is the next best thing to the Ron Jon surf shop. As you are heading south from John's Rip Off, look on your left for a 2 story wooden building sometimes called the Suncoast Surf Shop. Happy Skimming

    8. Tarpon Springs, Florida; 29.0 mi (about 46 mins)

All right you are very lucky. If some one finds out i gave this spot away on the net my life is in danger. But if you’re like me and you live in Pinellas county and you like to skim nice, full 3-6 foot consistent shorebreak this is the place to be. It’s right down the street from my house so I skim there about 4-6 times a week for about the last 2 years. i must say of all the times I’ve skimmed here there’s only been about 10 times that i been skunked for waves. There’s some deep underwater dredge right off the beach that carries waves in with extreme power. it throws up about a 4 foot wave (on average) that come in breaks right in the middle and you can take your pick of going north on it which is a point break like ride for about 20 feet. Should you pick to go left (south) you must have balls because this is a thick dumpy barrel that if you wipe out on you'll be spitting out shells for a few days.
From anywhere in Pinellas County take US 19 north into tarpon springs. Make a left at Martin Luther King blvd. and take this all the way down until you pass alt. 19 further on to an unusual looking 4 way stop that is right in front of a bayou. Take a left and go around the bayou till you get to gulf road, which is the last, left. Take this past tarpon springs high school through the light and all the way down, you'll see the park entrance which is Sunset park, go and park and walk out on to the beach directly in front of the rest rooms to which you'll find the grueling old' wave. Skim for hours. Have fun and don’t tell anyone where you found out. Ya dig?

ive never skimmed Tarpon. Sand pebble used to be ok but as many people dont skim it anymore. there are many areas around it still skimmed in IRB.

Tarpon is known for a few things. Beautiful shore break & 500 yard siders on clean white sandy beaches, sponges... and coral reefs that produce the rarest of carbon fibers. This is how local board makers are able to get very inexpensive carbon, and yet, still produce a high quality skimboard to hang with the big dawgs.

joemotocross06, seriously don't get your hopes up. We don't get many waves. We are very humble though. at
