Try a reverse camber board, it raises those catchy contact points, and gives you a looser carving feel. Good for learning. I personally dont like them though :X, but have helped a lot of people learn...

most mediums are for up to 10.5, you want it as close to the sides of your boot as possible and adjust the toe
