Get a used board. Exile is top of the line, but victoria and slotstik make good boards too. You can get used boards that are carbon for 300 or less

Chemicals definitely don't seem like they can be good for the board either

Credit card is like a wax comb. That's what I use. Heat it up, then scrape most off. Then, leave it in the sun longer and wipe all melted wax off

If its pretty small, you can use super glue and just sand down the extra
