Trying to finally make it out of landlocked Richmond this weekend for some skim. Where's the slope...still 61-63 like ZBR said? This weekend's forecast so far is highs in the upper 80's and sw winds around 10mph...it'll change but hopefully not much. High tide is great for early morning glass, around 6am.
I'm sure there are tons of spots.. I wish I had the time to pick a day w/ a decent swell and check the entire beach at like 5-street intervals to find the best spot. For now, yeah... 62nd (averaged them out) is pretty good. Those conditions sound perfect, hopefully they'll hold out. I probably won't make it out on Saturday but Sunday I hope to hit it early AM.
I'm either going to come down Saturday evening sesh or dawn patrol on Sunday. Kinda going to watch the weather and see what happens.
if you dawn patrol on Sunday I can almost guarantee I"ll be there. I have a thing to go to on Saturday so I won't make it. If you go on Saturday post on here how the conditions were.
im going either early on friday or late on saturday. maybe on sunday too if its still looking good. depends on waves/weather/when i have to work.
Looking like Saturday evening could be the time...winds are supposed to be WSW all day 13-15mph. Sunday winds are forecasted to go NNW. Planning to come down early afternoon and skim through the evening high tide somewhere in the north end.
damn, wish I could get out there, brother's graduation that night
Did anyone go out this evening?
Skimmed from about 330p until 7p this afternoon at 48th St. just to the right of the beach access. Good slope, decent waves. A little far out but def. reachable. Overall, it was fun and worth the trip. No pics sorry, too busy skimmin.
effing epic today. soild waist to chest high glassy barrellzzz just pumping right on shore. consistent too. wave after wavee omggg. i have a few pics ill post tomorrow. way too tired now. here's one of them for now. nothing too great for the pics though, i was just sitting down for ten minutes or so because i was tired out so i took a few pics. plus its with my point and shoot and i didnt have my memory card and could only take nine pics on internal memory. next time ill bring out my better cam and try to get some quality shots. teaser: more tomorrow.
What an AWESOME pic luff. I had a pretty good time this morning, idk, the waves were good, it was just one of those days where you have a hard time finding a groove. I skimmed from 6-8:45, by the time I left the lower tide was starting to frack with it. It pretty much stayed great from 6-8 though. I just didn't really start skimming well till about 7:30 or so, so I spent a while being frustrated. After I skimmed I grabbed my camera but I didn't get any worth resizing/uploading/posting. The biggest wave I got was right about the same size as Luff's pic above, and it took my best sideslipping efforts to get to it. A lot of great little liners and frontside bashes though. I would fully recommend hitting it late this evening if the wind doesn't frack it up.
Oh, and.. 61st is definitely the spot right now, at least at high tide from 63rd down to the hotel. I walked up and down but that was the only spot that was peaking and peeling, the rest of the spots were closing out except another point by the hotel, but the beach was too flat to reach the waves there. I'd really like to explore more though b/c there has to be more points with good slope around.
on second thought, here's a few pics. Like I said, by this point the tide was getting on it. It went from really good to this in about 20 minutes. There were none of those double-up situations like you see in a couple of the pics till after 8:30 or so.
mm looks fun. im about to post the rest of the pics i took, but from what i saw mid tide coming in is probably the best for now. at high tide theres too much water and getting enough speed is practically impossible. yesterday i got down there mayeb an hour before high and it was pretty sick. big clean waves breaking practically on shore, no trouble reaching. there were sickk lines coming in further north but there were so many people there it was impossible to skim.
yeah on the other side of high it gets weird. settin up to be perfect tide for tues dawn patrol
